Lila
"I'm scared." I confessed to Jayden. He smiled and sighed.
"We all get nerves before going to do something important. You just have to take that and use it for fuel." I took a deep shaky breath. I heard leaved crunching and looked to see Landon approaching. So without a word I took off in a sprint. My legs were numb from running around already so I barely noticed how rubbery my legs felt.
I went back around the house like I did when we got here. I noticed the kitchen was empty when I got there. I gulped an air bubble and my mouth went dry. As I approached my heart started to hammer harder and harder. The sound filled my ears. I grabbed the cool handle and slide the door open and took one step inside. Sweat was already dripping down my nose. I hope that scent stuff works. I all but sat in a vat of it.
I took another step in and closed the door behind me. I stood as still as possible and listened for footsteps. When I heard nothing I walked threw a doorway on the left. The hall continued to the left and right. To the left it continued a few feet before there was a single door on the end. I'm assuming to a basement of a closet of some sort. I noticed a big lock hanging slightly above the handle.
A pair of gloves hung on a hook next to the trim so I am assuming it's made of silver. Jane might be down there if it's silver. I tread carefully to the door and looked at the lock closer. It's a lock that need a key. A bit my lip and stood on my tip toes. I felt along the top of the trim and felt cool metal. The key. I started to rejoice but then remembered who I'm dealing with. I went back to the kitchen and searched the mostly empty drawers. I stumbled upon a medium sized knife. Satisfied with what I found I went back to unlock the door.
I did it as quietly as possible. The door opened mostly silently. There was a small platform that went out a few feet the stairs continued to the left. I stepped forward and peered down for a second. Then my danger radar went off. I started to look to the right and knew I was in trouble. A dude twice my size leaped at me, claws out. I just squeezed my eyes shut and stuck the knife out like it was a reflex and he just went right into it. I opened one eye when no other movement was made.
The knife was lodged in his sternum. He made eye contact with me and thick black blood started to pour from his nose. His body started to slumped and I pulled the knife out. More blood poured from the wound as he laid there. Disgust filled my entire body but I continued down the steps. I saw my precious best friend was tied up in a corner. She was mostly unscathed except for a few bruises and cuts.
I got closer and notices burn marks around where the chains were. Silver chains. God these people were relentless. I moved them slightly and her eyes popped open. She opened her eyes and then her mouth to scream. But I put a hand over her mouth and put a single finger to my lips. She started to silently cry. I unwrapped the chains from it intricate knots. When I did I took a strand just in case we ran into any more friends. I helped her up from the chair and I noticed her knee was not facing the correct way. The silver must have weakened her to the point of not being able to heal.
We started to go to the stairs when I noticed another presence. A tall but sort of skinny teen boy stood in the doorway. Like a shadow he stood extremely still. I swear my heart is going to explode. He didn't do anything. We just stood there for what seemed like hours and stared at each other. Then without another word he motioned for us to come up the stairs. I tuned and looked at Jane.
"He's been making sure no ones hurt me." She whispered in my ear. I took a few steps forward but stayed at the end of the stairs.
"Come on hurry up. Before someone see's you." He said sharply. We got up the stairs as quickly as possible and past the man I stabbed. Looking at him made bile rise in my throat. The boy grabbed onto the other side of Jane and helped us to the back door. But then the sound of multiple heavy footsteps made me panic all over again. Several people flooded from the door way and was ready to come after us. But the boy shoved us out the door and said, "Run!" He closed the door behind us and started to fight people off.
"I can't carry you so were going to have to find a place to hide." I told her as we tried to make an escape. We made it to the end of the road where a house was still on its foundation phase and jumped into the sandy dirt. I covered us up with some of the dirt and waited. We laid there silently and heard them running to find us. The sound of cracking bones told me the rogues were here too.
Giant thuds came slowly above us. A large filthy snout hovered above both of our faces. We held our breath until someone called out a name and the head disappeared. We kept waiting and waiting even after the sounds of people went away. It was sunrise whenever we got out of the hole. I checked that the coast was clear and helped Jane up and we went into the woods slowly as not to make too much sound of attract attention. But the second we stepped into the trees we tried to run for it. Janes leg was mostly healed but the silver exposure slowed down the process still.
She tried to keep up with me but had to keep taking breaks because it was too much. I started seeing familiar woods when the sun was highest in the sky. The heat was terrible and there wasn't a single water source to be found. But thank God for turning the wrong way because we ended up at the far end of the territory where the creek was. We rested in the cool water and took a few good swallows before continuing on. The second we stepped into the meadow we both collapsed from exhaustion. The constant throb in my head made me even more tired than I already was. My vision started to go blurry.
"Don't fall asleep." Jane panted out. "I can't mindlink because of the silver. Wait for help to get here then we can sleep." I nodded slowly.
Landon?, I called out weakly in my head.
Lila?! Where are you okay?, He sounded very upset and panicky.
Meadow..., I tried to continue but the sleepiness made my mind numb. I yawned and rolled onto my back. The warm sun lulled me to sleep.
