"What did you just say to me?" Stiles said. His body was positioned next to mine, both of us now standing. He was turned slightly so his chest was sort of facing me, but his eyes were focused Theo. He may have glanced once at me, but for the most part, our attentions were on Theo.
"I know what happened to Donovan," he repeated. "I know everything." Stiles' quick movements ran towards Theo before my mind could catch up enough to stop it. He walked Theo backwards until his back slammed against the fence around the transformer box.
"You don't know anything," Stiles said. Theo scowled and spun him around, the fence giving off another rattle as Stiles hit it. I grabbed the back of Theo's shirt and threw him across the roof, standing next to Stiles as I growled loudly at Theo.
He shot back up, walking forward just a bit. "I was there! I was at the library. You and Malia found the book. Malia went to see where Stiles was. Said you left him at the library. I told her I was close. When I got there, I heard the scaffolding come down."
"You saw him?" Stiles croaked. Theo took that as an invitation to come closer. I let him, but I kept my eye on him.
"Just the body." He walked closer until he was standing right in front of us, his eyes on Stiles. "I saw you walk out. I was gunna say something, but then I saw the cop car. And the body was gone." I listened to his heart, which was remaining frustratingly steady. I think he knew that, too, because he looked down at me. "I don't know who took the body. I only saw what you saw, and I didn't say anything because you didn't."
Stiles looked like he wanted to respond, but the sound of oncoming sirens stopped his words. They were close, and we still had a dead Chimera with us.
"That's not an ambulance is it?" Theo asked, already knowing the answer. Stiles shook his head and I followed his lead, the two of us splitting Theo and walking towards the body. We had to hide it or bury it or tell Scott or something, right? "Hey, we should get out of here."
"We can't just leave him," I said, gesturing to the body.
Theo rolled his eyes, acting like he was nervous about getting caught, but his heart was still steady. "Fine. Alright, let's take him. Someone's stealing the bodies anyway, right? Here's our chance to find out who." Neither of us answered, and it made Theo act increasingly more panicked. "Guys, come on. We gotta do something."
"You killed him," Stiles whispered, his eyes wet and bright.
"In self-defense!" Theo replied. I wasn't quite sure I believed him, and apparently neither did Stiles. "He was gunna kill all of us. If we stay, we're either gunna have to tell the truth or we're gunna need a pretty convincing story. It's your choice. I'm not gunna ask you to lie to your dad."
He said it, but somehow I thought it wasn't true. No matter what we did, I was sure Theo would find a way to come out of it squeaky clean. Stiles and I looked at each other, both coming to the same conclusion. We had to play along.
"Don't worry. We've had plenty of practice," Stiles muttered. Stiles walked to the body, bending down, and I stepped closer to Theo. I stuck out my hand, letting him believe I was going to give him a handshake that said I trusted him. Or was at least willing to work with him.
He smiled lightly at me, sliding his hand in mine. The second he did, I slipped out my claws and buried them deep into his flesh, squeezing his hand until I heard bones break. Theo groaned, hunching over slightly.
"If you ever touch him again, it'll be the last you touch. Got it?" I whispered seriously, using whatever leader influence I had to force him into submission. He nodded emphatically, so I released his hand. He clutched it to his chest, his eyes jumping back and forth between me and Stiles.
