"We should block all the doors," Stiles said. "It would give us at least a little bit more time." I agreed, so we all split off to help seal the place. Stiles, Scott, Liam, and I pushed desks against the front door while Lydia, Malia, and Theo worked on the back doors and windows. The deputies were quick to help block everything off, using everything we had.
Even with this, we were probably going to need help eventually. I doubted Monroe would come to her senses in the next two hours. Lydia and Quinn went into a room near the back, trying to find a way to connect with the outside world considering Monroe has us surrounded with cellphone jammers.
The endless chatter made the building stuffy and loud, but it all ended when the lights shut off. This couldn't be good. I watched a woman named Morrow walk to the door and stare at it with wide, terrified eyes. Her pulse was racing and it took three times of Sheriff calling her name for her to register it.
"How easy is it to cut the power in a sheriff's station?" Malia asked.
"Too easy!" Vagas, another deputy, said while throwing a kid into the room. He fell to the center and looked up at her. She was holding a pair of large wire cutters that I assumed she'd gotten from him.
"Throw him out!" Liam said, instantly angered for some reason.
"No, y-you can't!" he begged. "Okay? Please, don't. She'll know I screwed up."
"He's with them!"
"Liam," Scott warned.
"But that's Nolan!"
I understood why Liam was so angry, and just hearing the name brought fury into my chest. "That's Nolan?" Liam nodded, and I growled deep in the back of my throat, turning my flashing eyes to Nolan. Just when I was about to leap at him, Stiles grabbed my hand and pulled me into his chest, hiding my glowing eyes from everyone in the room.
"She's fine. Sore throat. It's fine," Stiles told everyone who might've heard my growl.
Liam ignored Scott's warning, saying, "Sheriff. He's a liar and he's sick in the head." Feeling more in control, I pulled from Stiles and saw Scott's confused look, wondering what about Nolan made Liam and I so furious.
"And now he's under arrest. Lock him up," Sheriff said.
Parrish picked Nolan up, and I said, "Are you gunna cuff him?" Parrish nodded. "Good. Make it tight." With another nod, Parrish walked Nolan into the holding room, Morrow and another officer following to keep watch over Nolan.
Theo grabbed Liam by the shoulder and practically dragged him into the bathroom, and I paced the floor with my arms crossed. I was sure people knew about what I was but going off on Nolan would've created an even bigger problem. I was lucky Stiles had stopped me, but I still felt the urge to at least put a little fear into Nolan. He got away with beating Liam up and he shouldn't have. Even if we are what we are, we're still human. Don't we deserve the same treatment?
As I was pacing, Parrish yelled, "Everyone get down!" I turned to see what the problem was as everyone dove for cover. Scott, who was closest to me at the time, yanked my arm until I was behind a wall. My eyes closed the second the explosion of light went off in the room. Because the space was so small, it left my ears ringing and my eyes trying to readjust to the brightness. White smoke filled the entire room.
"What the hell was that?" I asked as I forced myself to get to my feet. Stiles quickly crawled over to me to help.
"Are you okay?" he asked worriedly.
"I'm fine," I told him, blinking rapidly.
"It's a distraction," Scott said. I watched everyone stand slowly, looking around the room with confusion and fear. Sheriff's face contorted into anger.
