The second the car was in park, I hopped out to go to Liam and Scott. Liam frowned at me, clearly sensing some sort of distress.
"You okay? Did Theo do something?" he asked hushed.
"No. It's fine. I'm just a little tense around him." I gave him a smile of reassurance and he nodded at me.
Theo called for us to walk "this way" so we followed him. The sun slowly started to fall behind the trees before any of us bothered to ask any questions. It wasn't terribly long, but we probably should've asked sooner.
"Where is he?" Scott finally asked.
"I thought we were looking for him," Theo replied, his tone a bit snippy like he was still angry at me. I didn't really care if he was angry with me. He deserved it and worse.
"You know who he's talking about," I snapped.
"Deucalion?" I had been shocked when Hayden revealed to us that Theo had Deucalion trapped with them, but I didn't care enough to do anything about it. Maybe I should've.
"You shouldn't trust him," Scott warned.
"You're the one who let him live," Theo retorted.
"I'm not a murderer."
"You still think you're gunna get through all this without killing anyone?"
"I didn't say that."
I stopped when Liam slowed, his brows pinched as he stared at the ground. Theo and Scott stopped and looked back at us, they're eyes focused on Liam. "We're close."
"You get his scent?" I asked gently. Liam nodded at me, his eyes telling me just how scared he was for his best friend.
"Which way?" Theo asked. Liam looked at Scott before looking back at me, his lips firmly closed, and I glanced at Scott, all of us mentally conversing about our best play here. Unfortunately, Theo caught on. "You think you're gunna leave me behind?" Theo had a smirk on his face that told us he wouldn't allow it.
Liam's question was clear in his eyes as he watched me: should we leave him?
"Liam," Scott said, wanting to avoid a fight.
"Scott, he wants to kill him," Liam defended. I understood the place Liam was coming from because if the roles were reversed and it was my best friend on the chopping block, I sure as hell wouldn't let Theo anywhere near it.
"I just want his power," Theo said, his voice rising with anger. "You want to fight someone that actually wants to kill Mason? Go fight Parrish."
"Who did you see when you put on the mask?" I said, hoping to direct some of Theo's anger away from Liam.
"I already told you, it wasn't Mason."
I took a daring step forward, making sure Theo would be able to sense the waves of 'don't fuck with me' that I was sending out. "That's not what I asked. I'm going to ask one more time before I stop being polite. Who did you see?"
Theo looked over to Scott as if he would help him, but Scott just waited, letting me take the lead. I was surprised to sense that Theo was scared of me. "I-I saw a man dying in the snow. He was impaled on a spear." My mind instantly connected the vision with the story Lydia told us. I was willing to bet the man Theo saw was the Beast when he was impaled however many years ago in France.
"Yeah, Lydia told us the story," Scott said.
"Then you all know what it means. Time is running out. Where is he, Liam? What direction?"
