Growls came from all around the school. There was Peter, Derek, Jackson, and I even heard Isaac's. Oddly enough, I could hear I heard one coming from Ethan, but Gerard hadn't told me he was back. I backed up, stumbling over the stairs behind me and falling down onto them.
"Heal," I whispered to myself. Deucalion had done it, so could we. I waited...and waited and waited. But I couldn't feel the skin sealing itself. My heart sunk at the thought that I might be like this forever. "Oh, my god." Stiles ran down until he was on his knees in front of me, his hands on either side of my face.
"What have you done to yourself, you stupid girl?!"
"I'm sorry, I had to. It was the only way," I said. My tear ducts didn't work because they were destroyed, but I would be crying right now if they did. I didn't want to be blind forever. I didn't want to never see Stiles' face again. I wanted to see Melissa clap and cry proudly at my college graduation, I wanted to see Scott's children one day. I wanted to watch a ballet. I wanted to drive. I needed my eyes.
"Okay, guys, you have to heal," Stiles said to us. I guessed Scott wasn't healing either. The doors opened again and Malia, Lydia, and Derek ran up to us, so Stiles shifted to the side so everyone could see.
"I can't. I can't heal, Stiles. It's not working," I cried.
"Guys, you have to heal. If your eyes stay like this much longer, the damage is gunna be permanent," Derek said.
I shook my head. "I'm trying."
"It's not working. I can't focus," Scott said.
"Scott?"
"Here." I reached for his hand, gripping it so tightly that I was worried it might hurt.
"Okay, look at me." I fell silent, as did everyone else. "Okay, don't look at me. You know what I mean. If we don't heal, I just want to tell you that I love you. I wouldn't want to fight with anyone else and I'm proud to call you a brother and a friend."
"You're the best sister I could've asked for." Scott pulled on my hand, wrapped me into a tight hug. I thought about the past I'd shared with him and the future we would have. I didn't realize I was already seeing the books and shelves of the library. I blinked, making sure that it wasn't some figment of my imagination.
I pulled back suddenly with a relieved gasp. "I can see. Oh, my god, I can see. Can you see?"
Scott nodded, smiling with the same emotion I was feeling. "I can see." I pulled him in for another bone-crushing hug, feeling like I could cry with relief. I released him, jumping up to catch Stiles' mouth in a kiss. He held me tight, his fingers digging into the skin of my back as he pressed my body against his.
"I can see you," I whispered, caressing the side of his face. He smiled, pulling my head to his chest as he hugged me. A pair of shoes ran by the library and the scent it carried made my eyes glow with fury. Why was Monroe still here?
I tore from Stiles' arms for the door. No one else knew why I was running, but they followed me anyway, calling my name. As I was taking a shortcut, I stopped off by a dead body. It was a hunter. There was a small handgun on the holster of his ankle, so I grabbed it and continued running.
My pack had lost me, so I assumed they were following Monroe's scent as well. I ran faster hearing my feet hitting the ground getting closer and closer to her. Just as she was about to race out the door to freedom, I stepped out in front of her. She stopped like a deer in headlights, staring down the barrel of my gun.
"Please let me go," she said, backing up with her hands up.
"Why? So you can start another army elsewhere?" The pack ran up, stopping behind Monroe when they saw I held her at gunpoint. No one seemed to know what to do.
