We left Argent's bunker so Argent could talk to Gerard. Hopefully, he could talk some sense into Gerard, but I doubted it. Gerard very rarely let sense be talked into him. We dropped Lydia off at her house so she and Stiles could go talk to Monroe about meeting with me and Scott. Out of all of us, they were the ones Monroe would probably be least likely to kill. We had to work from both ends in case one end, Gerard, failed to bend. Monroe was new, maybe her fire could be extinguished.

Scott, Malia, and I waited at home for any news regarding our next plan. I drummed my fingers for what felt like an hour. It couldn't have been more than 20 minutes, though. I was just eager to put this in the past and move on. I jumped for the phone when Stiles called.

I pressed speaker immediately. "Hey. Whatcha got for me?"

"She agreed to the meeting," Stiles said. Scott and I smiled at each other, but Malia looked annoyed. "But she wants it in the tunnels. Listen, wait for me, okay? We'll be there in a minute."

"Sorry, Stiles, but you shouldn't come. If things get hairy, you'd be in the crossfire. You stay with Malia and Lydia. Scott and I will handle this one." Scott and I were already gathering our things that we needed while Malia shot us 'you're both stupid' glares.

"No, I'm coming with you."

I sighed and handed the phone off to Scott. "You deal with him." I grabbed my keys and jogged down the stairs, Malia right on my heels. Scott was close behind, trying to convince Stiles not to come.

"It's a trap," Malia said. I suddenly understood all the looks she'd been giving me.

"Probably," I replied.

Scott hung up, hopefully after getting Stiles to agree, and said, "She said that she would meet with us to talk." Scott and I headed for the door where my car was parked outside, Malia trailing us.

"Meeting alone in the middle of the tunnels with a werewolf hunter? It's a trap." Malia's voice told us how much she disapproved of our plan.

"There's two of us. We can take whatever she brings," I said.

"What if you can't?" Malia sounded worried, and I realized she didn't hate our plan, she was scared for us.

"Well, what do you want us to do?" Scott snapped, stopping to face her. I stood at his side, watching her eyes flick between the both of us like the answer was obvious.

"Don't go."

"Gerard is recruiting new hunters and he's murdering our friends," I said, listing it out on my fingers.

"He's not gunna stop unless we convince him that we're not his enemy," Scott said.

Again, Malia asked, "What happens if you can't? You're gunna get yourselves killed. We need you."

Scott sighed, his voice softening. "If I didn't think you guys could beat him without us-."

"We can't." I hoped she was wrong just in case this meeting did go wrong. But I believed that if it did, our pack wouldn't stop until they got me and Scott back. They were strong enough.

"Malia, we're just going to get Monroe to trust us," I said. "She agreed to the peace summit, so it means there's a part of her that wants to trust us. We have to do this alone." Malia looked down, obviously not liking my answer but accepting it. It was the only way for this to work. If the entire pack showed up, Monroe would feel cornered and wouldn't listen to us. It was better this way. I sent her a small smile before Scott and I walked out of the door.

I drove the speed limit for once, giving us time to sort out our thoughts. I had a plan in case this did turn out to be a trap, but I doubted it was a very good one. Scott didn't know about it because he believed that this was just a talk. I had to be the realistic one. We couldn't defy the odds every time.
