I walked behind Stiles, guiding him out his front door as I covered his eyes with my hands. He complained about my surprise, and I assured him he'd love it. Of course, that didn't stop him from pretending to hate the process.
I stopped when Stiles' jeep was in perfect sights for him then stepped backwards, clasping my hands behind my back. Stiles blinked a few times like he didn't believe he was actually seeing his jeep in front of him. He for sure thought he'd never see it again after he had it towed.
He turned to look at me, confused excitement in his eyes. "Baby... How did you even...?" He left the question open, and I smiled at his inability to form an entire sentence.
"Well, I found it and bought it back. I had restored what I could afford, but it wasn't much," I said sheepishly.
"No, this is-." He spun around as if checking to make sure it was still there, and I smiled at how happy he was. "This is amazing. Thank you. Holy shit, Y/N. I can't believe you-." His arms shot out to pull me into a bone-crushing hug and a lip-smashing kiss. It took me a minute to kiss him back because of the surprise of it all, and by the time I did kiss him back, he instantly turned around to look at his jeep again. I was pretty sure I just got whiplash.
He bent his knees like he was going to jump, his fists clenched at his sides as he took in the sight of his newly re-acquired jeep.
"I'm not sure it's ready to be driven just yet, but a little more work and it should be back in the game," I said, holding out his keys to him. He nodded, sneaking glances over his shoulder at the jeep as he took the keys from my hand.
"I love you so much," he grinned, kissing me again. I giggled, a feeling washing over me that made me want to jump around with joy. "I'm gunna get to work on it." He left my arms as quickly as he entered them, running to his jeep to lift the hood, and I shook my head at him.
He spent most of the day working on his jeep, running back and forth from the auto repair shop, and sparing two minutes for bathroom breaks. I spent most of my day watching him work, helping him, and bringing him water that he refused to get himself. All in all, one of the best days I could've asked for. It was unusual that I got to spend so much alone time with him, even when we were dating before. My smile never died as I watched him.
----------------------------
I went to bed way before Stiles did. He stayed outside to work on the jeep. He claimed he had to get it working before today because he was going to be the one who would have to drive us to New Mexico where Kira was. But just because we went to bed at different times didn't mean we didn't sneak in a little late-night sex.
Now, the jeep was parked in front of Scott's house as Scott and I packed a bag to take with us. Stiles worked on a few last minute touch-ups. Scott went down before me because I was still deciding on what to take and how much.
A knock on my door alerted me to Liam's presence as he waited in the doorway, a sheepishly apologetic look on his face. I glanced at him before continuing to riffle through my closet.
"What do you need, Liam?" I asked. It wasn't cold, but I wasn't necessarily friendly about it either. I mean, he did try to kill Scott. He took my words as an invitation to walk a few steps into my room.
"They're alive. Hayden is alive," he said. I wondered, and kind of hoped, that Hayden being alive made him feel like what he did to Scott wasn't worth it at all.
"I know."
"Are you mad at me? I can't handle you being mad at me, too." I paused to look at him, taking in the sight of his small frame begging me for some kind of warm response. I was at an impasse. Scott was my best friend, Liam was like my brother. If I forgave Liam, did that mean I was waving off what he did to Scott? Or better yet, was it even my responsibility to forgive him?
I sighed, folding a few clothes into my duffle bag. "No, I'm not mad at you. I think. I'm not sure." I zipped my duffle up with a huff of exasperation at myself. "Look, Liam, I can't talk right now. I've got somewhere important to be." I picked up my bag, offering Liam a meek and insincere smile as I tried to walk past him.
He held out his hand, blocking my path, and looked at me with such strong emotion, it almost knocked me off my feet. "What can I do to fix this?"
"Just... Stay here, stay out of Theo's way, and don't get yourself killed. We'll talk when I get back." He frowned, not liking my answer, and I squeezed his hand once to make him feel better before I walked past him. I almost instantly wished I had hugged him instead. Too late now.
I walked outside to see Scott holding the light for Stiles. I heaved a heavy sigh as I leaned back against the jeep. My arms were crossed and I chewed on my lip, staring at the grass.
"Liam?" Scott asked.
"Liam," I agreed.
"Did you say he could help?"
"No. Did you?"
"No."
I nodded. At least we were both on the same page about it. I turned to look in the jeep, watching Stiles' greased up hands wrench something into place. His eyebrows jerked up as he looked at me and Scott.
"Shouldn't he be a little higher on your priority list right now? I mean, since he's the only other actual werewolf, your only actual beta?" Stiles asked.
"You didn't see the way he came at me. You didn't see the look in his eyes." Scott shuddered as if the memory just went through his mind. Knowing Liam, I believed it was just as bad as Scott remembered it to be.
"Well, I've been with you two on a full moon, so I've seen that look. You want to get the band back together, you don't leave out the drummer."
Scott looked at me and sighed as Stiles walked to the driver's side. He turned on the engine, and it jumped to life smoothly.
"You know, he asked me to turn Hayden," I said, running my fingers along the edge of the hood so I could have something else to look at besides Scott.
"He asked me, too. Why did you say no?"
"Because it's different with me. I don't mind making a submissive, you know? Sorry, I mean a beta. I know the process inside and out. I could say it in my sleep."
"Then why didn't you?"
I looked at him, swallowing thickly, and shrugged. "I'm scared." Scott watched me silently, and I wished I could read his mind because he was making it very difficult for me to read his emotions.
"Guys, will you get in already?" Stiles grumbled, halfway hanging out his window. I rolled my eyes, smiling at the ground as I opened the passenger side door while Scott closed the hood.
As I was about to get in, I stopped. The backseat was almost completely filled with yellow jugs. "Stiles! You were supposed to clear these out." I shoved what I could to either side, squishing myself in between them. Stiles apologized half-heartedly, making me roll my eyes. Scott got in and shut the door then looked back at all the jugs in question. I waved and smiled sarcastically.
"It's a minor leak. Very minor," Stiles defended, pinching his fingers an inch apart to demonstrate how minor it was. I rolled my eyes when he and Scott shared a mental laugh at my expense then we were on our way to New Mexico.
