Chapter 2

Peeta's POV

"Look at your new bedroom Willow!" I exclaim to my awake daughter as I walk into the nursery.
Katniss follows in after me and heads to the curtains to close them.

I carefully place Willow's carrier on the changing bench and unstrap her.
I pick her up out of the seat and hold her so she can look around.
Her head just turns in all directions, supposedly looking.

I chuckle and take her to the painted wall.
I get Willow's hand and place it on a tree I painted.

"We will be taking you here shortly. You're going to love it." I comment and kiss her head. Willow just stares at the wall.

I don't know if she can see it clearly as I read that they can see clearly for a certain distance.

"I'm sorry daddy but little Willow has to go beddy-byes." Katniss comments and takes Willow from my embrace.

The words mummy and daddy are still so peculiar and strange to Katniss and I. It is a term we will have to get used to pretty soon.

Katniss walks over to her cot, placed near the middle of the room, and lies her down.
I walk up to stand beside my wife at our daughters cot.

Willow moves around before finding a comfortable position.

"Goodnight sweetie." Katniss farewells and bends over the cot wall to place a kiss on her head.
"I'll be downstairs." Katniss whispers to me and quietly exits the room.

Willow positions her head to try and look at me.
"Sweet dreams pumpkin." I comment and stroke Willow's head with my thumb.

A smile makes its way on my face as she slowly closes her small eyes and falls into a sleep.
I carefully remove my hand from her head and back out of the silent room.

I step out and grasp onto the door knob. I pull the door towards me.
When I'm satisfied with how ajar the door gap is I release my grip on the handle.
I leave it open enough for us to hear Willow from downstairs if she wakes up.

I wipe my eyes as I feel happy tears build up and quietly walk downstairs to my beloved

"Into breaking news. We have been given some photographs that have come all the way from District 12." Caesar says on the projector screen in front of us.

Katniss snuggles deeper into me as we listen on. A photo of Katniss, Willow and I come up beside Caesar. We released 1 photo of us 3 under our permission. No others were allowed to be released.

"Katniss and Peeta Mellark left District 12's town hospital today. With their child!" Caesar exclaimed and photos flash up of me bringing the car to the front entrance.

"Peeta Mellark was first seen but answered no questions about the new mother and child,"

"Thank you." Katniss thanks me and I stroke her arm.

"Then 10 minutes later the new family exited the hospital and went into their car." New images of us 3 heading into the car show up.

"We still don't know of a gender or name of the new Mellark but we can tell the couple are very happy with their new arrival and we hope to hear some information from them soon."

As soon as Caesar stopped speaking I turned off the projector.
Katniss and I sigh and we look to Adriana, sitting on the other couch.

"Have you been asked anything?" Katniss asks and Adriana nods her head.

"All I said is that you three are doing well and are very happy." Adriana said, knowing Katniss' next question before she said it.

"Thank you." Katniss thanks again.

"Get some rest you two. I'll tend to Willow if needed." Adriana suggests and we both nod.
Katniss gets up and I follow her.

I wrap my arm around her waist and help her upstairs. We slowly make our way to the bed and both lie down.

We hug, the closet we've been able to for 9 months, and easily fall asleep.
