Chapter 48

Katniss' POV

"Willow Mellark." Her name booms suddenly through the speakers. Peeta's hand grip on my arm tightens and I turn towards Peeta. Both of us on the verge of tears.

I turn my head back towards the lit stage. I look as her figure, dressed in a black dress and her flowing curly hair behind her, walks up the steps and to the side of the stage. I proudly watch as my daughters takes a new step in life.

With a beaming smile, she shakes the head teacher's hand. Exchange thanks and is handed her diploma. She joins the line of other students graduating.

Peeta and I both turn to each other and exchange a hug. The tears choose now to spill silently. Tears of joy.

We turn back and see as Willow spots us in the audience. Peeta holds a thumbs up to her and she shows us a big smile.

"Ryan Daniels." Willow's head snaps to the stairs she came up when the name is heard.

Him. Been with her since day one of school. Boyfriend to my daughter for 8 months now.
Peeta and I both love him and believe that if Willow loves him dearly and they are to get married, we will accept him as a son in-law with open arms.

Ryan accepts his diploma and walks to stand by Willow. They share a quick kiss and smile at each other.

I stroke Peeta's leg, knowing he doesn't like Ryan kissing Willow. Being protective over her which I accept. I slightly cringe over the fact as well but we are fine with the two as a couple.

"Ladies and gentlemen. The graduating class of 2231!" The head teacher exclaims and the graduates cheer.

Peeta and I stand up along with everyone and clap. When the cheering and clasping has called down, Peeta and I head towards the stage.

Willow comes down and runs into her fathers arms. I join my arms around them and bury my head into Willow's head.

I hear Peeta crying and we let go. "Congratulations sweetie." We both say and Willow smiles.

"Willow!" Two voices exclaims and her head snaps behind her. Molly and Jennifer. Both been also friends from the beginning.
They all hug and shout. "WE GRADUATED!"

The words make Peeta turn towards me and cry into my shoulder. We hug at the realisation of it all. I turn my head to see Ryan and Willow hugging. I smile and stroke Peeta's arm.

"Hey, hey. Peeta. She's always going to be our little Willow. Nothing's going to change that." I murmur into his ear, loud enough due to the music.

I feel hands wrap around me and see Willow hugging us again. I smile and take it all in.

Willow has graduated.
