Emmeline ate two portions of chicken and when she was done, she looked at the empty plate. She and Prince sat in the main living room on the sofa. Prince watched the girl who was silent.
— You wanted to escape — Prince started. — I understand you.
— You?— Emmeline asked in disbelief. — You do not understand anything, grandfather.
— You're wrong — Prince said calmly. — I hurt you and you were angry on me. Everyone would do that. Everyone would escape from the place where he experienced pain.
— You hit me — Emmeline said in a shaky voice. — For telling the truth about Larry and your religion.
— Our religion — Prince corrected her. — You may not like Larry, but you have to respect him. It's a person older than you, not a kid. I know teenagers are not religious, but ...
— I do not want to talk about it — Emmeline hissed. — You are deaf to everything.
— I want to understand you — Prince said and touched her arm. Emmeline shuddered and moved away from him. Prince felt as if someone had hit him in the face. — Do not reject me, honey.
—Do not talk to me like that — Emmeline said. Tears flowed down on her cheeks. — If you want to understand me, let me live. Just live. You said that you do not know if you trust me. I know one thing - I do not trust you.
