Lily's hands shook. It felt as though her heart had plowed into her throat and lodged itself there. She felt the tears spring into her eyes but she wouldn't let them out. The Ravenclaw Prefect stood in front of her with his arms crossed over his chest. His blue eyes glared down on her still heaving face.

'You're past your curfew... a whole hour in fact.' He seethed.

'I know, I'm so sorry, I was doing my homework in the library and got carried away.' Lily explained.

'Madam Duncan would have told you off long before that. Actually she would have reported you one minute past your curfew.' He argued. Madam Duncan was the school librarian. A very strict one at that.

'Yes I know, but when I was leaving she was no where to be seen.' Lily urged.

'Don't lie to me! She would never abandon her station, not even for a minute! You were probably out with a boy for all I know.' He yelled. Lily's face turned red. She hated people yelling at her and calling her a liar.

'I am not lying, you seething piece of cow dung! I'm telling you the truth! I was in the library doing my blasted homework, and for all I care you can go ahead and report that to Professor Mcgonagall. Get them to put me under truth serum! You're the blasted idiot that can't get it through your thick skull that I'm telling the truth!' Lily screeched at his smug face.

'Now that is no way to speak to your elders, Miss Potter, come with me please.' He hissed. A few people walked down from the spiral staircases of the dorm rooms.

'What's going on Newt?' One of the Ravenclaws asked.

'Don't worry about it Henry, Miss Potter was just deciding to break a couple of rules and yell at her Prefect.' Newt grabbed Lily by the arm and shoved her out the common room door, everyone looked stunned at Lily. Her face burned red. Before she could say anything Newt shut the door and pulled her toward the Headmistress' Office.

Professor Mcgonagall hadn't looked pleased to see Newt. She had groaned loudly when her eyes met his just after she opened the door but as her eyes flashed down to Lily her irritation subsided into confusion.

'Miss Potter had been outside her common room an hour past her curfew and she-' Newt began.

'Shut it Mr Price. Lily why were you out past your curfew?' Professor Mcgonagall asked still astonished to see Lily Potter in front of her for rule breaking. She had expected that from James Sirius Potter and the Weasley children, not Lily.

'Sorry Professor Mcgonagall,' Lily looked at the wooden floorboards in shame, she could see Professor Mcgonagall's astonishment written all over her face. 'I was doing my homework in the library and didn't notice the time that had passed.' Lily reasoned.

'What about Madam Duncan? She would have reported you instantly.'

'I don't know where she was, she wasn't at the front desk when I was making my way out.' Lily looked at Newt's sunken face and she smiled to herself. The pig tongue was going to get it.

'That's quite odd... She's always at her desk,' Professor Mcgonagall seemed to be processing her thoughts before she smiled the rumored non-existent smile everyone talked about, Lily was so used to that smile though, whenever Professor Mcgonagall visited her mother and father she always had that small smile on her face. 'Well not to worry, head back to bed Lily, I'll find out what happened. And as for you Mr Newt Price... stop being a whiner and go make some friends.' Professor Mcgonagall shut the door as Newt opened his mouth to speak. Lily laughed and made her way back to her common room.

'What a suck up.' Lily whispered as she looked back at Newt's statue like body, his eyes glued to Professor Mcgonagall's door.
