Quidditch

It was finally the day of the Ravenclaw versus Gryffindor Quidditch match. Everyone in the Great Hall seemed to be buzzing with energy as they talked to one another animatedly and ignored the food on the tables. Gryffindor and Ravenclaw kept eyeing each other, looking for the weak links to taunt. None were found.

Quidditch was a wizarding sport which was played on broomsticks in the air. The goal of the game was to score more points than the opposing team. In a Quidditch match there were four balls, a Quaffle, two Bludgers and a Snitch that only a Seeker could catch. The Quaffle was the only ball that wasn't bewitched and had to be thrown around, every goal earned the scoring team ten points. However beaters had to try and stop the opposing players by beating the bewitched Bludgers towards them. The Seeker was the only player that could finish off a game and earn their team one hundred and fifty points.

Lily ate her pancakes in silence. Yesterday, deep in the hours of the night a small innocent thought had occurred to her. She would be watching her brother, James, play Quidditch with someone other than herself and Albus. But then another thought tumbled into her wondering mind. Scorpius would be playing too...

Lily shook her head as the pancake slipped from her fork. Nothing bad would happen, it was just a friendly game of Quidditch. She thought to herself for the thousandth time that day.

Yes and Scorpius and James were the best of friends. A dark sarcastic thought retorted.

At eleven o'clock students streamed out into the cold weather, cloaks tied securely around them, and walked hurriedly to the Quidditch pitch. All around the pitch were colourful stands meters up in the air.

'Welcome all to the Ravenclaw versus Gryffindor Quiditch match!' Fred Weasley's voice rung over the cheering crowds. Lily had sat with Albus, Kara and Jack. Fred Weasley was another cousin of Lily's, he was George Weasley's son, named after his deceased uncle. It was his fourth year in Hogwarts, while it was his sister's first year with Lily. His sister, Roxanne, was just a few seats behind Lily.

The crowd cheered as they spotted the two teams walking towards each other on the snow covered pitch. The Gryffindor and Ravenclaw members shook hands and then the whistle blasted causing them to lift up into the air on their broomsticks.

'And we're off! The Quaffle is instantly taken by the Gryffindor's team captain Lola - passes it to Serena - Oh and she's blocked by Ravenclaw chaser, Lucas - Oh no! - Lucas is hit by a Bludger from his own team mate, Scorpius - Quaffle is taken by Serena and she's off again - Passes it to James - And he scores!' Every Gryffindor erupted into cheers, Lily clapped for her brother. 'That makes the score board ten for Gryffindor and zero for Ravenclaw. Lucas takes the Quaffle and passes it to Daniel - who is nearly knocked off his broom by a Bludger sent from Bridget of the Gryffindor team - Oh! - that must've hurt - he's crashed right into his Seeker, Sarah, a second year who has recently joined the team - Oh but Ravenclaw isn't out of the match yet! Allie takes the Quaffle - And scores!' Lily cheered for her team. The match went on for a while after that, both teams were tied at sixty points.

Lily noticed her brother James circling above Scorpius. He looked like he was waiting for something. Lily cocked her head. What was he waiting for? In that moment a Bludger flew towards Scorpius, he aimed and hit the Bludger towards the other team who had the Quaffle in possession. Lily's eyes went back to James and noticed him flying away from a Bludger. He zipped past Scorpius and just as Scorpius turned around the Bludger connected with his shoulder. Lily gasped. Scorpius was so high up in the sky. His broom slipped from under him and he plummeted.

Fred Weasley's voice rang out through the crowd, 'And Lola scores! Wait is that-? - Scorpius has just been hit by a - Oh no!' Everyone held their breath. A blur of blue robes pelted down after him, but one was faster than the rest and caught Scorpius just before he hit the ground. It was the Ravenclaw Seeker, Sarah. She pulled out of the head dive a little too late and they tumbled to the ground. 'And the Gryffindor Seeker has just caught the Snitch! That's it everyone, Gryffindor wins by two hundred and ten points to sixty.' The Gryffindor spectators all exploded into cheers but Lily heard none of it. The blood rushing through her drowned out every sound as she sprinted down the stands to the pitch.

She heard Scorpius groaning as he clutched his very out of place looking shoulder. Lily dropped by his side. She hadn't noticed the hoard of people that had followed her until the moment she looked up to see Madam Trumpet hurrying down the pitch to heal Scorpius. In all the blur she noticed only some of the dozens of worried faces, Albus, Rose, Hugo, the whole Ravenclaw team, and then she saw the back of James' head.

Lily got to her feet and noticed Scorpius reaching out to pull her back down again. He must've known what James had done, or was close to figuring it out. Lily wasn't going to back down this time. She ignored Scorpius and followed her brother until he got into the change rooms. Before he could walk inside she grabbed him by the collar and pulled him aside.

'What the hell was that?!' She screamed at him. His brown eyes were wide with shock.

'What are you-?' He started but was cut off by Lily.

'Don't you dare play dumb with me, James. This is the last warning before I really get involved, stop trying to hurt Scorpius.' She hissed with as much venom she could muster. Lily had been angry in the past, most of the time James knew exactly how that anger acted and played out, he knew exactly how to get around that anger. But he was speechless now.

James and Lily both had picked up their fiery temper from their mother. The only difference was Lily knew exactly how to direct that anger into making life a living hell for the other person. James only knew how to explode and make life a living hell for himself.

'Stay away from him.' Lily spat, she turned around but stopped walking when she heard James start to speak.

'Why? Why do you care for him so much? Don't you care for me? Why are you choosing his side?' His voice shook. Lily knew it was because he was trying to calm his anger.

'I am not choosing his side! You are the one pushing me to his! You keep going on about how he is the bad guy, how every pure blood is evil and should be burned on a stake, but what about Neville Longbottom? What about the Weasleys? What about them James?' Lily turned back to face him and in a monotone said, 'You say the world is against you, but I think you're the only one against yourself... If you do one more bad thing to Scorpius, I will not hesitate and you won't be the only one against yourself.' With that Lily turned her back on her older brother and left him to ponder his thoughts alone.
