'Since when does James like just one girl?' Albus asked Scorpius when Madam Trumpet, the school matron, had provided him with the right medicine to heal his wounds and left.
'Since now I guess.' Scorpius laughed. James was always known as the ladies’ man at Hogwarts. Lily didn't understand why.
'What did you do to make him so aggravated in the first place?' Lily whispered. Scorpius' grey melting eyes met hers for a moment before looking away.
'I accidentally did a spell that lifted her skirt above her head in front of all the boys and James.' Scorpius replied sheepishly. 'I didn't mean to though, it was meant for the girl next to her.'
'That's mature.' Albus said looking out the large window to the grounds below.
'You seem to take everything so well.' Lily scornfully looked over at Scorpius.
'What do you mean?' He asked as he watched Albus play with the trinkets on the hospital windowsill.
'I mean James hates you, absolutely despises you, yet you just laugh it all off, like it's a joke.' Lily replied.
'Scorpius likes to get on James' nerves, and the nicer Scorpius is, the more resentful James becomes.' Albus replied from his post. His emerald green eyes, so much like his fathers, turned to look at the heavy double doors that were opening to introduce a small girl with an abnormally large eye. Madam Trumpet rushed her in to an empty cot near the back of the hospital wing and began crushing up a herb with a dark distinguishing scent.
'Why do you care?' Scorpius asked Lily.
'Because he's my brother and you're my friend, I just want this stupid rivalry to stop. What happened between you two anyway?' Lily asked.
'You mean to tell me your darling brother didn't fill you in?' Scorpius looked at Albus with astonishment. 'Well since I have to do everything...' He jokingly flipped his blond hair out of place. 'Hmm... Well where should I start? I guess the beginning would be best... In my first year we were fine I guess, well he ignored me as much as he could since I am the son of the 'School Traitor'.' Scorpius spat, 'anyway! In my second year that's when things got a little bit fun. See all the students and some of the teachers were involved in this big game called 'Prank of the Time'. You basically have to prank as many people for as long as you possibly can without getting them hurt. James decided, the filth he is, to prank me.'
'James almost killed him in other words.' Albus stated roughly. Lily looked confused and Albus sighed. 'Our stupid brother took Scorpius out into the Forbidden Forest at night and said there was a girl out there screaming. Scorpius listened to him and ran into the forest searching for her-'
'Can I tell the story?' Scorpius interrupted. Albus laughed and waved for him to continue. ‘Right, I went running shouting for the girl and then I heard something growl behind me I turned and saw-‘ Scorpius shivered, ‘never mind. I yelled and ran, of course that was a waste of time and energy since it pinned me down…’ He paused remembering.
‘What was it?’ Lily whispered to her brother.
‘A werewolf.’ Albus replied to her.
‘And then a large pack of centaurs came out of nowhere and chased the beast away.’ Scorpius finished.
‘How didn’t James get into any trouble?’ Lily spat.
‘Scorpius is too proud.’ Albus hissed angrily. He obviously cared for his friend’s safety.
‘Either way when I got out of the Dark Forest I jinxed him so hard that he had bright green hair for the rest of the week. So many people made snide comments that he confronted me and forced me to fight him without a wand. I cheated of course and hexed him that he had bats flying out of his nose for the next hour. I guess fighting me today finally gave him that ‘respect’ that he wanted. Too bad the girls respect for him is gone.’ Scorpius grinned and then grimaced as his broken lip was pulled apart, it filled with a small amount of blood again. He turned to take a sip of the tincture on the bedside table and gaged at the taste.
‘Why did she lose all her respect for him?’ Lily asked.
‘Because he’s obnoxious and she doesn’t like guys that pick fights.’ Scorpius answered.
‘You seem to know a lot about this girl…’ Lily whispered.
‘She’s my cousin.’ Scorpius whispered back and Lily stared.
‘I didn’t know you had a cousin.’ Lily looked over at Albus' unsurprised face, he already knew.
‘Daphne, my aunt, doesn’t want her daughter to have the same traitor status as me.’ Scorpius looked over at the girl in the cot near the back of the room, she was out cold, Madam Trumpet must have made an extract to ease the pain of the girls’ swollen eye. 'So I would appreciate it very much if you didn’t tell anyone…’ Scorpius’ grey eyes shifted to Lily’s hazel ones.
‘I won’t.’ Lily solemnly whispered. The large double doors burst open to reveal a fuming man with neat blonde hair wearing formal clothes.
Draco Malfoy.
