As the end of November drew in Hogwarts seemed to not be the only thing that became colder. Lily and Scorpius became increasingly agitated with each other as the first task approached, Scorpius thoughts kept going over all the things his father had said and now he was so sure that his father would jump out of a bush any second. Lily felt the same way, however, she didn't let Scorpius see this as she knew he could be on the edge of an anxiety attack any second. And so she let him believe that she didn't think anything bad was happening but truth was that her heart hammered every time she looked at Scorpius and remembered that the Deatheaters were planning something for the school. As the day for the first task drew nearer the two hardly spoke to each other.

Eventually Lily grew tired of lying in her bed, just staring up at the blue ceiling, that she got in her school robes and went down to the library.  In the morning everyone would get up early and go down to the grounds to watch the first task commence. Lily knew she'd never fall asleep because of what the Deatheaters were up to and so she decided to look for something else about the Seed instead of doing nothing at all.

She tiptoed the hallways of Hogwarts, the silence and coldness sending chills down her spine. She should have just stayed in bed and hoped for sleep, but instead she kept walking, her fathers Invisibility Cloak wrapped tightly around her, as if that could help her become invisible to the cold. Once she finally reached the library, she crept inside and made sure to lock the door behind her with the sweep of her wand, she also cast the 'Muffliato' charm over the double doors to cause a slight buzzing sound in a person's ears if they tried to listen in. She did this in case one of the books made a sound as they most likely would. She removed her Cloak and went over to the Restricted Section.

Lily spent over an hour in there, constantly looking over her shoulder to make sure no one was there even though she knew she'd locked to doors. Lily's nerves were already on edge and when she had finished flipping through what seemed like the hundredth book she groaned loudly.

'Why is there nothing about it?' She whisper shouted, 'I'm an idiot for thinking I could find it! There's nothing in this library! What do we even need most of these books for!?'

A loud bang startled her.

'Hello?' She whispered, her heart racing like the speed of light. Once her heart rate had gone back to normal, she walked over the source of the sound.

A book laid splayed on the ground near the entrance of the Restricted Section. Lily looked around, hoping to find someone running off who had pulled it off the shelf, but then she thought maybe it had just fallen off the shelf... Lily picked up the book and just as she was about to put the book away, the painting on it caught her attention. It was the Tree of Magic sitting over a small globe, its roots seeming to cover every square inch of the land underneath it. She remembered reading this book a few weeks ago. However, something was different this time. The book seemed lighter.

This definitely wasn't coincidence... Lily looked around again, trying to find the end of a robe turning a corner or a pair of eyes peering at her. She found nothing though. The library sounded eerily quiet now, like the silence after a thunderstorm.

Lily looked up at the large clock on the wall. Quarter to two. She needed to go to sleep but she quelled that idea as she looked down at the book in her hands and began reading.

"The Tree of Magic, also known as Merlin's Tree, has been around since the start of time, a single seedling had fallen from the heavens and landed on earth. Years and years passed until a small gorilla like creature had stumbled upon the large tree.
It was hungry.
Just as its stomach growled the gorilla looked up at the Tree and noticed a yellow fruit up high in the canopy. The gorilla began to climb, it climbed and climbed, first quickly but as it got higher the creature began to slow down. Its limbs became shorter and its hair retracted. Once the creature found its way to the highest branches the Tree began to communicate with the hairless gorilla.
'You are no longer a gorilla my young one... You are human.' the Tree spoke to the human through their mind.
'
What are you?' the human asked out loud.
'I am the Tree of Magic, living here for a century now.'
'
Why are you here?'
'To bring peace or destruction.'
'
Peace or destruction?'
'Yes, whatever you most desire.'
'
Why?'
'Because that is the purpose of my existence.'
'
Why couldn't you speak to me before? When I wasn't ...'
'Human?'
'
Yes.
'Your brain wasn't in the same frequency and so I needed to do some adjusting before I could speak to you.'
'
And why me?'
'Nothing personal really, you just happened to be the first and most developed creature that had come across me.'
'So what happens now?'
'What every you wish.'
And just like that began the reign of human-kind. The Tree of Magic helped the people keep peace or cause destruction according to how many willed it.
Eventually the humans began to fear the Tree and its power and so they had tried to burn it down, hoping that the fire would end the Tree's existence. However, the Tree was one step ahead and had given power unlike anything before to certain people.
Those people learned to wield magic with a single thought. For that they became the Tree's protectors, known back then to be Purebloods. They were the ones that made sure non-magical beings minds were wiped clean of what the Tree was and what their history included. The Purebloods were the ones capable of ending human life with a single lift of their finger, they didn't need any form of object to help them direct their power. But as the years passed by and generation after generation had gone by, the magical community grew lazy. Eventually using wands in order to produce their desired magic.
One day the Tree had grown to old and frail to continue its work and so a second generation seedling was created to continue the magical reign. It was given to a single wizard, Merlin himself.
The most important rule of the seed-barer was to -"
