'Sorry, kids, you'll have to wait until the holidays are over to get the train back... You've literally come home this morning, why are you leaving already?' The cleaning lady of platform nine and three quarters stared at them intently, her thick eyebrow twitching with anticipation.

Scorpius groaned, 'No reason, just really love studying.' he replied sarcastically. Lily watched the cleaning lady walk away from them, every now and then turning her head to watch what they do next. Scorpius waited until she had reached the invisible barrier to Kings Cross station. The lady took one final glance at them before finally admitting defeat and leaving the magical platform.

'Get on, Lily.' She turned her head to see Scorpius sitting on his broom ready to leave.

'Where are we going? We can't ride out of here on that because the muggles will spot us at Kings Cross-'

'We're not going through the barrier, Lily,' he stared at her from the corner of his eye, 'we're flying to Hogwarts, we'll follow the tracks.'

Lily stopped moving, 'you're insane, you do realise that? It takes the train hours to get there and it's already sundown, we won't make it in time.'

'Trust me.' Scorpius grinned holding out his hand.

'Your confidence is beyond me.' Lily whispered as she sat on the back of the broom. He chuckled as Lily gasped at how fast the broom moved forward, quickly tightening her grasp on Scorpius' waist.

Eventually, after the sun had gone down, Lily heard her name being called.

'Yeah?' She asked Scorpius.

'What?' he turned his head to look at her.

'Didn't you say my name?' she shouted into the wind.

Scorpius shook his head, realisation filling his eyes a few moments after. Lily pointed at some lights in the distance.

'We're close!' He shouted back before dipping down, almost laying on his broom, Lily followed suit, and the broom shot forward with exhilarating speed. Lily's spine prickled and her stomach churned, she couldn't tell if it was from the speed of the broom or if it was Scorpius' reaction about her name being called.

When the two touched down just outside of the Hogwarts gates, Lily toppled to the ground.

'Lily!' Scorpius dropped down next to her, 'what's wrong?'

Lily was covering her ears with the pain of it, the voices were back and they were crying out as if they were being tortured.

'It's the voices, they're screaming.' Lily spoke through her teeth as she said it, she kneeled forward and let her forehead touch the dirt track that would lead them to Hogwarts. She groaned and tried to mentally shut out the voices. They seemed to only get louder. She whimpered in pain.

'Lily let them in! It's the Tree talking to you! Let it speak to you!' Scorpius held onto her shoulder as she shook.

'I can't, it's too painful!' She screamed as the voices seemed to make her feel like she'd gone deaf for a moment. Scorpius grabbed the sides of her face and pulled it up to look at her, they were a mere centimetre apart.

His pupils looked like pinpricks in his now steel grey eyes, Lily couldn't imagine how she looked. She could see her vision beginning to blur at the edges. Scorpius mouth moved but Lily couldn't hear anymore with the torrential wave of voices screaming in her mind. She watched his lips as he moved them again, 'trust me', they implied. Lily closed her eyes and felt her body move forward.
