Dark Thoughts

A few weeks had passed since the First Task. Sarah Aviery and Alexander Talony had tied for first place after finishing their first task of finding and catching the one legged cauldron. Bridget Lamore was the first to finish however since she had been burned numerous times for dropping the cauldron, she was deducted of points and came last. Lily and Scorpius had spent every waking moment together, every break they had was spent in searching for the Tree of Magic.

Albus had seemed to be the only one that had noticed how close the two had become over the few short months that had passed. Eventually he couldn't take it any longer.

'What are you two up to?' He exploded one evening when the two were headed to their common room.

Lily turned around with wide eyes, shocked at her brothers outburst, 'what do you mean?'

'All you two have been doing is sneaking around together for the past few months! Scor, you hardly even speak to me! Is it because you're ashamed?' Albus' face had begun to turn a sickening purple.

Scorpius was even more shocked than Lily, 'why would I be ashamed?' He asked.

Albus took a step forward, his eyes glistening, 'you think I don't know? Do you really take me as a fool?'

Scorpius and Lily looked at each other, they had kept the Tree of Magic a secret from everyone, especially their closest friends and family, so that they didn't have to deal with the constant worry and stress of it like Lily and Scorpius did. Lily didn't want to tell her brother about it as she knew he would immediately tell their parents on a 'need to know' basis.

'Listen Al, I didn't want you going off and telling mum and dad about it-' Lily began.

'Why not? You're afraid that dad will go after him?' Albus practically shouted. Lily looked around the empty corridor, shocked at how much her brother had figured out on his own.

'Well-' Lily began.

'And you!' Albus shouted at Scorpius, 'you're my best friend for crying out loud! I though we were closer than that! I mean she is my sister! Isn't there a rule for-'
'Wait, what?' Scorpius looked at Lily, just as confused as she was. 'What do you mean by she's your sister?'

'Well, news flash Scor, we're blood related-' Albus replied in a harsh sarcastic manner.

'No, that's not what I'm asking, I meant what are you implying by it?' Scorpius' face was starting to turn red with anger. Lily still had no idea what was going on.

'Well it's obvious isn't it? I mean everyone has been talking about it! All the girls rush around gossiping about it all the time, what gets me the most is why you didn't tell me about it. I had to learn from stupid gossip about what was going on! I mean does the word 'best friend' mean nothing to you?' Albus bellowed.

Scorpius was fuming, 'there is nothing-'

'Shut up, just shut up. I don't want to hear you say some petty excuse for it. Look mate I get it okay, some girl walks into your life, very caring and what not, showing you the slightest interest and you need to get with her. I just thought I meant to you more than anything and that you wouldn't do that to my sister.' Albus finished.

Now Lily understood, Albus knew nothing about the Tree, not a single sliver of it. He thought that Lily and Scorpius were dating.

By this stage Scorpius was shaking with rage, 'I am not-' he began bellowing but Lily pulled him back behind her.

'So what if we are dating?' Lily asked her brother. Scorpius spluttered from behind her, but Lily nudged him to stay quiet. 'Why should you even be involving yourself? I date whoever the hell I please, no matter what they mean to you.'

'Whatever,' Albus looked at the two with disgust, his eyes lingering on Lily's hand which was placed against Scorpius' chest to keep him from getting in Albus' face. He looked them up and down before turning around and walking away.

'Lily what do you think you're doing?' Scorpius asked when Albus could no longer be seen.

'Scor, I'm sorry I had no other option left, if we told him that we weren't dating then he'd start asking what we were doing with all our spare time together. There is no way in hell that I'm telling him about the Tree.' Lily explained, 'I'm not getting him involved in that.'

'And you think that letting him believe that we are dating is better?!' Scorpius' voice rose.

Lily raised her eyebrow, 'Am I that disturbing that you wouldn't even fake date me to save the conscious of my brother?'

Scorpius spluttered. 'I didn't mean it like that-'

'Yeah whatever, I'm going to bed.' Lily finished angrily before turning on her heel and leaving Scorpius in the dark corridor with his own thoughts.
