Audrey's POV

A good hour or so had passed since the phone call and Ricky still hasn't come back inside the house. He asked for some alone time and once I saw that he was stable enough I went back inside, but I still kept an eye out for him from the kitchen windows. The heaviness in his soul could be felt for miles and there wasn't much I could do to lift his spirits. I heard a clatter of glass behind me and I turn to find Justin taking out some plates.

''Ricky loves smores so I was thinking maybe we could make some.'' He explained to me as he reached down the cabinets for a bag of marshmallows. "Unless you think we shouldn't?''

"No no I think we should. He did say smores were always good.'' Plus I was craving something to eat since we got here, but my hunger is the least important thing at this moment.

''Hey Audrey I've been meaning to ask about you two,'' He stops searching. ''Is this thing you guys have going on serious? Not to sound rude or anything but Ricky always had plenty of girls so I just find it strange you're the first one he brings home.''

''Why is it strange it's me?''

''I didn't mean it in a cruel way. From what I see you're a nice girl and all, but I guess I just expected something else. Forget about it.'' He shakes his head and continues looking for the rest of the ingredients.

"Something else? Did you expect him to be with a beautiful model or someone that was famous?'' My voice comes out vacant knowing well that probably everyone that sees us, thinks that.

''In a way, yes, but it's a good thing that your none of that stuff. I'm not saying that I'm upset it's you, but considering all the type of girls he used to be with I do find it a little strange it's you, but I'm happy it's you at the same time. Sorry, but does that make sense?'' He really was bad at explaining himself.

''Strangely it does and I'll be taking everything you just said as a compliment,'' I tell him as I take another look outside. The sun is about to set and he's just laying on the ground.

He chuckles, ''It was a compliment, sorry if it didn't sound like one.''

''Well I was a little offended at first but it's okay.'' I say thinking back to all the past girlfriends Jocelyn would show me. They were all either models or actresses and of course, they were all so beautiful. So when he said he was expecting something else well it reminded me that maybe I'm not enough for him.

''No, please I wasn't trying to make you feel bad. Here have an apple as an apology.'' He picks up a red apple from the fruit bowl and tosses it at me.

''It's fine don't worry about it.'' I laugh still feeling a little hurt.

''Okay I'm sorry again,'' He pulls out the graham crackers and sets all the stuff in the table. "Would you mind staying alone for a bit? I have to run real quick for some chocolate.''

I tell him it's fine and runs out of the house leaving behind the jingle of keys rattling. Turning back to Ricky I touch the window and it's chilly. I look around for a blanket so I could take out to him. My mom and I used to always have a blanket in the living when winter came around but I don't think they do the same since it's Texas. I remember seeing a folded blanket in his mom's room and I go and look for it. Going inside her room and I snatch it and don't look back as I exit her room.

I close the door behind me and notice the other room right in front of me. Biting my lip I open the door slowly hoping it doesn't creak like the other one. There's a small gush of wind once it's fully open and my eyes start to adjust to the darkness. On the corner of the room, there's a bunk bed and an extra small bed on the opposite. This must be their room, it's so small.
