Emily got out of the taxi and thanked the driver before walking to the front door. The house was of average size. And considerably smaller than Emily's but so was everyone's but Emily liked the smallness. It felt more homely. Everyone seemed closer together. She used to think if her family lived in a place like this it would have been different but then she remembered that her mother was the main problem in there house hold. She shakes the thoughts out of her mind, and trying to think about something else before entering the house which she knows better than her own. She knocks on the door as Ali's mom, Katie answers it.
"Hi Miss Katie!" Emily smiled all of a sudden filling relaxed in someone else's house."
"Emily we have talked about this Katie is fine you don't have to call me Miss. I have known you for a decade. Your like my second daughter." She said hugging Emily then following her into the house. Emily treasured every moment of the hug, hugs at home for her were sparse. Her sisters hugged her sometimes but no one was big in contact unless they were sad or ill. But a proper mom hug never happened.
"Yea, we were thinking of getting you a key so that we don't have to move when you get here and you can let yourself in as you practically live here too!" Ali's dad Billie said who was sat on one sofa in the living room and Ali was one another which Emily went and sat on.
"You okay?" Ali asked Emily who smiled in return with a small nod. She knew she could talk to Ali in a minute just not in front of her parents.Billie and Katie looked at each other before speaking again.
"Emily we were wondering if soon you wanted to invite your family over for dinner so we can finally meet them. And not just ur sisters in passing." Katie said, as neither family had ever meet. Her sister had never really wanted to go or always had an excuse when she asked previously but it was ages since the last time they had asked. And every now and then when either picking Emily up or dropping her off but never properly talked.
"Err maybe I would have to talk to them." Emily stuttered a reply knowing that at the moment having everyone in the same room for 3 minutes was an issue let alone a meal.
"You could even maybe invite your mother and we can finally meet her!" Billie said and Ali's eye stared daggers at him. She knew Emily didn't get in with her mother and that the relationship wasn't the best and she was hardly ever there but not much. She knew she knew more than most people but she had told her parents that Emily and her sisters have a rough relationship with their mother. Emily eyes just went down.
"Dad!" Ali hissed at her father.
"No it's fine really, she is busy with work a lot so she probably won't be able to but i can see if my sisters can" Emily said hopeful that she can get her sister to except the dinner invite and actually eat a proper meal.
Ali got up and grabbed Emily's arm showing that they were going to go upstairs.
"That's fine honey." Katie said.
"We are going upstairs." Ali said as the started walking out.
"We will call you girls down for dinner. You haven't eaten yet Em have you?" Katie called up stairs to the girls.
"No I haven't thank you." Emily called down again. And was happy that she could now go and rant to the person who listens to her fully and get everything(mostly) off her chest.
