Their mother entered the house and immediately pushed her bags and coat at Beca, as their mother started rolling up her sleeves. Their mother looked at them like they were idiots.
"Upstairs Stacie's room." Beca called out. Their mother rolled her eyes and went up in her house. She walked like she owned everything. And in theory she did. Beca hung up her mom's stuff in the coat closet. Neither girl knew what to do now. But did decided it was better to stay downstairs and to be up there.
Their mother made their way to the top of the stairs and immediately walked straight into Stacie's room. Addy was asleep on her side in Stacie's arm so her back didn't have any pressure on it. Stacie immediately looked towards her mother, who had never been one for knocking.
"So let's see the problem." Ms Mitchell said already annoyed about how much time she was taking up. Stacie was unsure if she meant Addy in general or her back. She slowly tried to wake Addy up and her mom was huffing at the pace. Stacie resisted rolling her eyes and continued to move Addy. Addy slowly opened her eyes and it was the first glimpse of Addy their mother got. She inhaled and tried to act like she didn't see how bad this is. Addy definitely didn't look like Addy. Stacie slowly coached Addy through what was about to happen. She slowly took off her T-shirt and faced her so their back was facing her mother. She wanted her mother to feel bad and look at what she did. She wanted something like this to NEVER happen again. But sadly she knew that this probably wouldn't be true. Addy winced in pain as Stacie slowly started to take the bandages off. She started to feel tears coming down her face. Addy still knew she couldn't make a huge reaction in front of her mother but she knew that it was too much for her to just breathe through. Even once the first part had come off Sarah Mitchell knew that Stacie had been right and it was bigger than her. Addy could barely hold herself up on her own.
Once it was all done Addy held herself from throwing up. She stopped for a while but she could hold it in much longer. She got up and weakly made her way to the bathroom. Where she vomited anything she had left out. Stacie went to go help her but her mom grabbed her arm.
"You were right to come to me. Wipe it down with a warm towel trying to get all the... stuff out of it. Then don't wrap it up. I'm going to call a doctor to come here. They will look at her and see what to do." She let go and Stacie nodded and went to see Addy. As their mother left and called the doctor who she had previously called before who came to the house and she could pay off so no hospital note would be added to any record. Which means that no social service would get involved in her children and her business. Once she had finished on the phone she went into the kitchen where the other girls are.
"Have any of you eaten tonight?" Their mother said not looking at either girl and got herself a glass of wine. Not looking towards her children.
"No we haven't yet."
"Good I'm hungry. I'll be in my office. Knock for me when it's done." Their mother said walking away, taking the whole bottle of wine with her after little thought.
"But-" Beca started and was met with a glare.
"We will get on that now." Emily said saving them both.
"That's what I thought." Their mother continued out of the room. It was clear they couldn't order take out and to cook something. Something neither girl was experienced in. Emily immediately, being the brains of the pair, took to google where they had decided on spaghetti to make for everyone. Fear of doing it wrong happened to make them do it correctly. In the weird reverse physiology they ended up, mainly thanks to google and youtube it ended up tasting quite well. Acceptable. Which was enough. Emily decided she would be the one to take the food in. Knowing she would be the one less likely to be yelled at.
She took a deep breath and then stepped forward and knocked on the door. After hearing a clear enter. She pushed the door forward and walked into the room she broke into only the previous day. Her mother was sitting at the desk. Drinking through the wine that had barely any remaining. Yet she didn't seem drunk. But there isn't much you can tell from someone's back.
"Well don't just loiter behind me. My food is going to be cold." Emily quickly stepped forward and put the food down. She didn't wait for her mother to try it and tried to make a quick exit but was stopped.
"Emily, I believe you are, let's say my most honest child, has anyone been in my office? Now answer correctly." Their mother said and Emily gulped. She knew not to tell the truth but she also knew not to lie. But this was not the time to be questioning her actions.
"No. We were all trying to look after Ad... Adelaide. Also we all know that your office is locked, how would we be able to get in?"
"Are you implying I'm an idiot?"
"No, I-"
"I know my office is locked. I was wondering if you were or anyone else was idiotic enough to find a key and go in." She turned around to look at Emily, to tell if she could be lying. She slowly looked at Emily and raised her eyebrows. And Emily's heart started thumping.
"No. Not that I am aware of."
"You see, all my cameras have been wiped. Nothing is in recently deleted so whoever did it is smart. So that clears Adelaide also I think she is a little caught up at the moment don't you think," Emily just nodded, "Which then leaves three. I reckon Stacie has a decent alibi by the state she and Addy are in. She looks horrible so I reckon hasn't left Adelaide's side. Don't you think? And then there were two. I highly doubt Beca would do it alone. So either you did it alone... Or you helped Beca. Which is it?" Their mother was now leaning forward, clearly no longer concerned about her food being cold.
"Neither Mother."
"Now I highly doubt that. What has my little Emily got to hide from me? Beca on the other hand, that filth, I imagine could have black mailed you in to helping. God knows what awful thoughts go on inside her head." Emily was disgusted by what she was hearing, she was glad she wiped the video because she couldn't imagine the reaction then.
"Nothing. You can't speak about Beca like that. She is kind and caring and if you gave her a second of your-" Emily was cut off by the slap that stung her cheek. She didn't even remember her mother getting up.
"I never expected this kind of behaviour from you! This is what happens when you spend too much time with the worthless shits in this house. So Beca did wipe the cameras! You said it."
"No I- I mean no she didn't. She was with me and Ally helping us with our school project. I swear. Ally could even vouch for us. I could call her right now."
"Who is Ally?"
"Remember Ally. I have been going to school with her for years. You met her once. Talked to her mom when she picked her up from our house that time."
"Oh why was she here?"
"We had a school project due. We were going to do it at her house but they had a family emergency so no one was at hers. We had to do it then. And Beca helped us. Maybe the camera all malfunctioned." Emily quickly blurted out. Her cheek stung like hell.
"I pay a lot of money for those cameras. I would think they would be able to work properly. I will be calling the company tomorrow. They should be able to restore the missing footage. And if they just shut down. I guess I will be getting a new supplier. Now leave. I can't deal with you anymore. Don't you think I have enough going on on my plate without you acting up. Get over yourself! You're not five!"
"Yes Mother." Emily immediately left the room. She prayed that she didn't manage to get the missing footage. She also wanted to forget everything that happened in the room. She couldn't handle a slap and a few nasty words about her sisters. She couldn't even think about the mess she would be if she ever had to stay in the room longer with the rest of her sisters. Or the pain her youngest sister must have felt in that room, or the pain that she still currently does feel. Emily couldn't see this as being right. She wanted to say something, but she couldn't. Beca and Stacie were right. There is no point. Emily walked back into the kitchen like nothing happened.
