The end of the day came not quick enough and Stacie was already waiting by the car by the time Addy had come out who practically leaped into her arm.
"Hey it's okay. You're okay." Stacie said looking at Addy who hadn't moved. It was then Addy had a sharp in breathe and Stacie released that Addy was crying. Stacie pulled back and looked Addy in the eyes.
"What's wrong?" Stacie said.
"I don't know. I just missed you and I'm tired. Please just hug me." Addy said still crying. Stacie re hugged her sister and didn't let go while the others started making the way to the car. Emily and Beca looked confused and worried, Stacie shrugged the best she could while Addy was gripping on to her. Both Beca and Emily got into the back of the car clearly as Addy was not going to be far away from Stacie.
They managed to get in the car and Stacie remained holding onto Addy's hand to try and comfort her as all the sisters tried to calm her down as they knew their mother wouldn't be kind to her if Addy was crying. Addy had stopped crying just about and everyone was saying about their days.
"Stacie can I ask you a favour?" Addy mumbled.
"Of course princess."
"Well, I kinda owe Miss Ranyon a Friday detention but if I tell mother that then she is going to kill me, I was wondering if you could say that maybe there is a college application thingy or something." Addy finished and all the other girls where trying to think of ways to make this work.
"Yes it's fine leave it to me." Stacie said squeezing her hand but not taking her eyes of the road so that Addy couldn't see the panic in her eyes.
They pulled up to the gates and they all took a deep breathe in ready to start the hell that waited them. As soon as they parked the car their mother had opened the front door and the girls got out.
"Bit late girls, what's keeping you down?" Their mother said sarcastically and moved out the way of the door.
"Sorry mother, it won't happen again." Stacie said fully well knowing that she was about to say that they would be late tomorrow.
"Glad to hear." The girls straight away walked towards the dinning room knowing that's that where they were meant to be. Before they were fully in Addy got pulled to the side.
"Awww, what's wrong with you cry baby?" Their mother grabbed Addy's chin pulling it up so she could see it better. "School too hard for you?" Their mother laughed at her own joke that only she found funny.
"Just my back hurts."
"Oh my god, how long are you gonna play that card for." She shoved Addy towards the wall and luckily she put her arms out before she fully hit her head. Then walked into the room and began getting her stuff out.
"So, Just to confirm my little rules as clearly I was too soft on you all I need to keep a better eye on you, you will complete any homework that you have received from the day and if you even think about lying to me about what you got, their will be consequences. You will not leave this room until all of it has been completed and to my standard. You will do your own work and only your own work. I will be checking in periodically so I will find out if you aren't following my rules. When you think you are done you will bring it to me to check. If it is not done correctly then you will come back here until it is done. I don't care how long it takes, it will be done and it will be done well." Their mother finished directing most of it at Addy who she knew would struggle with her work the most. Stacie had sat next to Addy as close as she could get and was holding her hand under the table.
Their mother left and none of the girls where brave enough to talk. One by one each of the girls left the room until only Addy was left. The clock had ticked on and everyone else had eaten and were collected in Stacie's room waiting for Addy. As soon as it hit midnight Stacie couldn't take it anymore.
"She hasn't eaten, so she hasn't taken her meds and she needs sleep and who knows how long she is going to be sat in there." Stacie said pacing back and forth as the other two girls sat on the bed.
"She may nearly be finished." Emily said hoping that this would be done the easy way.
"But how many times has she asked mother that she is finished and be told to start again." Beca said knowing that if they were going to do something they may as well go now.
"I need to talk to mother anyway about tomorrow after school. She needs to sleep and take meds we can't have her sit in there all night." Stacie went to the door.
"You sure you want to do this? I can go." Beca offered. It was time someone other than Stacie took at least some burden of this house and Beca was willing and ready to start.
"No, it's okay I have this." Stacie apprenticed the offer but knew the least amount of suspicion would be on her staying after school and she wouldn't let her sister be in the firing range. Stacie made her way down stairs and by her mothers office she knocked too a deep breathe waited for enter and made her way into the room.
"Um, I just wanted to say that there is an after school meeting for seniors about college and test prep. It is a mandatory attendance. My sisters will wait and start their work in the library and then I will drive us home at the end." Stacie finished and the was a long pause her mother turned around slowly in the chair to look at Stacie.
"Well if it's mandatory then I guess I can't stop you." There was a long awkward pause where they were just staring at each other. "What else would you like to say?" Their mother could always read them too well.
"It's getting late." Stacie spoke loud enough for it to not be a mumble.
"Yes you are welcome to go sleep, you could have a while go as your work is all done." Their mother said fully well knowing that is not what she meant.
"Yes I know but Addy needs to sleep and take her meds and have a snack. And I was wondering if... I was wondering..." Stacie didn't know how to say it and her heart pumping as fast as it could.
"You were wondering if she wouldn't have to finish her work and could directly disobey me?" Their mother said standing up.
"Yes but tomorrow is Friday and she could stay up as long as it takes to get it all done tomorrow?"
"She could but how would she learn?"
"Please, she is still recovering." There was silence and their mother was actually considering it. Thinking about her options."Fine. I will send her to bed now. But this will be the only time this happens from now on. No matter she will be there so next time she brings her medicine in the room. Do you understand?" Stacie couldn't quite understand it but didn't want to question it further.
"Yes I understand." Stacie said leaving the room quickly.
"Stacie! Never say I don't care about you. This is all for you." It felt manipulative but it was and their mother knew.Stacie waited at the top of the stairs with her sisters near by waiting for Addy to walk up. It was about 30 minutes later of pacing before Addy started making her way up the stairs. Beca and Emily who had sat against the wall stood up and followed Addy who walked silently into Stacie's room.
"SO..." Stacie said looking over Addy for cuts and bruises, she walked over to Addy and pulled up her sleeves looking at her arms and holding her face looking for anything.
"I'm fine Stace. I'm just tired."
"You sure? I need to check your back. What did she say?"
"Nothing I was just doing work. Can I please go to sleep?" Stacie nodded and shooed her other sisters out of the room. They wished her goodnight and went to their own rooms.
"Eat this, and take ur meds and then I want to see your back and then you can sleep. Okay?" Addy nodded not wanting to fight, she wasn't going to get much more sleep then this at this point so tomorrow is going to be rough.
