Beca and Emily made it down and waited outside. Emily was very nervous and wasn't called to the principal often. Scratch that ever. Also she hadn't talked to any of her sisters since the other day when she stormed out and didn't really know what to say to any of them.
"Hey." Beca said weakly, again unsure of what to say and unsure of why they both had been called down.
"Hi" Emily said.
"Look about last night, I-" Beca was cut off.
"Girls, do you wanna come in?" Miss Holmes said. Both girls looked at each other very confused.
"I'm confused, why are you in here? And why are you talking to us?" Beca questioned walking into the room when Miss Holmes pointed for them to sit down. Miss Holmes leaned on the front of the desk trying to be more casual than formal.
"It's about Addy." Emily stood up and rolled her eyes. Of course it was never about her or anything on that probably about Addy's attitude, which had nothing to do with or was even in the room so she literally knew nothing so in her eyes she was free to go.
"Emily where are you going?" Miss Holmes asked confused, itr wasn't like Emily to get up and leave when a teacher is talking. The Mitchell sisters just seemed to be confusing Miss Holmes further.
"I don't know why Addy is acting out, okay? And talking to us behind her back about it is going to make her trust you less!" Emily said calming on her way out.
"This isn't about her attitude."
"But it's about Addy and i'm not her so talk to her!"
"Addy passed out and was vomiting violently. She was crying in pain and had shivers but was sweating. It was very bad, and we told Stacie to take her home. We called you mom but she didn't understand how bad it was so told her just to get on with the day. Seeing Addy we told her to go to the hospital. Stacie went with her and as she didn't want to leave, so I had said I would give you girls a lift home." Both girls panicky looked at each other when their mother was mentioned. Emily came and sat back down. It was clear both girls were scared and worried.
"Was it bad? Addy? Was she really bad?" Beca asked scared, it was the first sincere moment Miss Holmes had seen and all girls were close which was obvious. But they were also very concerned.
"It was fairly bad. I think it was a lot worse than she was letting on." Miss Holmes said and let the girls have a moment. Beca's phone went off, just as a text message from Stacie. She was asking if she could bring back bandages to wrap around Addy's back, on her way back from school.
"It's Stacie can I call her quickly, she how she is doing?" Miss Holmes nodded to Beca and she dialed really quickly."Hey, How is she?"
"Hey she's not great. Can you pick them up on the way back, I have just cleaned her back but i don't want her to put anything on it which is tough as she is shivering and freezing but what if something gets stuck and gets worse." You could hear Addy throwing up in the background faintly and Stacie soothing her when she wasn't talking.
"So what's actually wrong with her?"
"I think her back is infected. I mean I know it is. But she keeps throwing up and... Addy i'm just going to step outside and talk more with Beca okay. I won't be long. Okay? Sorry."
"It's fine, continue"
"Sorry I didn't want to go over it all in front of her and the vomiting wasn't a pleasant background noise. Her back is infected badly the smell is god damm awful and I don't know what to do other than clean it! She is in so much pain and I'm trying to distract her but she keeps vomiting."
"So what are we going to do?"
"I don't know."
"Well we have to do something."
"No you have to stay at school and act normal, just on your way home get the stuff for her back she may calm down in a while it will be fine."
"I wanna help! I can..."
"No you stay at school Beca! We can sort it out later!"
"But!"
"No buts your socially awkward and you wouldn't know what to say to her anyway. Remember last time?"
"I know I didn't know what to say and I won't say stuff I will try to help in other stuff!"
"Beca stop! There isn't other stuff you can help with! Addy is what we are helping nothing else!"
"I am talking about Addy!"
"Yea, and what about Em?! You can sort out that talk to her!"
"She's pissed at you not me!"
"She is pissed at both of us! All of us! I don't know. I need to fix that too! Ugh Beca please I need to get back to Addy. So stop!"
"Wait what?! I'm not having a go at you. You snapped not me!"
"Me if you haven't of... you know what whatever leave it I'm stressed. Just make sure Em is alright. We will talk later."
"Fine but what about mother? Does she?"
" I don't know I have to not think about that before I stress more okay love you bye!"Beca put down the phone and turned back to the others. Then turns back to the wall and hits her head against it. She would punch it but she didn't want everyone to freak out.
"Beca are you okay?" Miss Holmes asked concerned.
"Yeah."
"How's Addy?" Emily asked.
"Not great." Emily scoffed at the response that much was obvious.
"How's Stacie?" Emily asked and with this question Beca knew that Emily was mad but the time apart that Emily was ready to try and talk. Shame Beca wasn't good at that but she knew she had to try for Stacie and then they would all be able to talk it out when Addy was better.
"Stressed. Worried. The usual Stacie emotions." Beca said.
"And what are we meant to do now?" Emily asked knowing it was a stupid question and they would be going back to class.
"The usual Em. Act like we all alright. We have to, they should be alright. Addy will be alright." Beca said walking to pick up her bag.
"You guys can take more time. And Addy may just have a really bad cold. So don't worry?" Miss Holmes said worried how badly these girls were reacting there was definitely something they knew over her and Miss Holmes had seen the only whole thing. Or so she thought. Emily looked to Beca for questioning if it's just a cold and Beca gave Emily a look that said no.
"Let's hope." Emily said, picking up her bag. Her intentions on how today was going to go and how she was going to act had changed. Her feelings hadn't changed on how she had been treated but Addy was hurt and somehow it was about her again. Now Emily was facing constant pain in her head of speaking out and being mad or keeping quiet and letting Addy heal before stating her case. But then isn't she hiding her emotions which caused the problem in the first place.
The girls thanked Miss Holmes on the way out for telling them.
"Girls if you meet me in my room at the end of the day so I can finish up but I shouldn't be too long then we can get going." Miss Holmes said sitting back down on the chair.
"What?" Both girls said turning around.
"Didn't Stacie mention. I'm said I would give you a lift home as Stacie went with Addy and means you can get home."
"No Stacie didn't say. We can get a taxi don't worry about it." Beca said.
"Nonsense, I will give you a lift change. Why spend the money when I offered it save it. This isn't a discussion." Miss Holmes said and turned back to the girls files.Addy's wasn't much help and only been here for a month or so. The only thing was the three of the four girls were ill all the same time, and a dramatic mood swing from Addy. But this hadn't been the first time Stacie and Beca had been off at the same time randomly. But nothing else, other than teachers complaining about attitude. Loads of detentions. But nothing else. Miss Holmes didn't know if it was because they wasn't anything to notice or because teachers didn't want to look past their attitude. But she had seen red flags and the absences where something she would come back to. But right now she had to get back to her classroom. She had her next class soon and had marking to get done if she wanted to leave on time.
