"Adelaide. Would you like to explain to the group why we are here today?" Their mother said patronisingly.
"Because... I...I...um..." Addy mumbled unable to control her hear.
"BECAUSE YOU'RE STUPID! YOU ARE STUPID! I AM BEING CLEAR ENOUGH FOR YOU! YOU'RE AN IDIOT AND NOW YOU HAVE MADE A BIG DEAL OUT OF IT AND MADE PEOPLE FEEL BAD FOR YOU! NOW EVERYONE KNOWS THAT MY SORRY EXCUSE FOR A DAUGHTER IS AN IDIOT!" Their mother spat as silent tears fell down Addy's face.
"Aww are you crying? Do you want me to tell you that you are special and you will be okay? And hold your hand when you cross the street? TOUGH! STOP CRYING YOU STUPID IDIOT! YOU'RE SUCH A WASTE OF SPACE. THAT'S WHY YOU ARE GOING TO TELL THE TEACHER, WHATEVER HER STUPID NAME WAS THAT YOU ARE NOT GOING TO SEE HER AFTER SCHOOL FOR HELP. YOU ARE GOING TO STOP BEING AN IDIOT! AND IF YOUR GRADES DON'T GO UP THEN GOD HELP YOU! YOU INSOLENT LITTLE BRAT I'LL..."
"Stop!" Stacie said bravely.
"Excuse me! Who are you to tell me what to do! Emily leave the room!" Their mother said.
"Why?" Emily piped up.
"Because you are not needed anymore, you seemed to be the only daughter worth having. The only daughter in this room who knows how to behave!"
"But!"
"EMILY!" Emily stood up and looked at Stacie who smiled at her telling her it was okay and that everything would be okay but Emily knew that it wouldn't. Emily ran upstairs and closed her door. And broke down in tears. She felt selfish for crying she wasn't in the room right now but wanted to be. However crazy that sounded, and she knew it sounded crazy, she wanted to be their with her sisters. She wanted to be their to support them. She hated being the good one but was too scared not to be. She wanted to not feel selfish for crying because she wasn't the one being in there.
In the dinning room their mother had told Addy to sit on the chair sideways.
"So we are going to play a little game. Because I know how much you used to like them." Their mother pulled out a belt from the draw and cracked it.
"Now Adelaide you said with 20 strikes and Stacie you are going to count. You and Beca are both going to watch. If either of you look away then she gets 10 more. And Adelaide if you scream or cry out the you get 10 more. Now hopefully this will knock some sense into all of you because clearly me hitting you two doesn't do anything. So, maybe you get the message now that Adelaide is now in the mix."
"Please let her go! She, we, will do whatever you say. Just please don't hurt her!" Stacie pleaded.
"NO! Clearly you haven't got the message before!"
"Please..." Addy cried. Their mother rose her hand and smacked it across Addy's face digging her nail in at the same time. Addy rose her hand and touched her face where her mother's nail hand gone in. She looked at her hand which was now covered in blood. Their mother punched Addy across the face hitting her in the eye and leaving another mark on her face from her nail proving to everyone in the room she was being serious.
"Let's start, shall we?" Their mother raise her hand and with her whole force let it come slamming down on her back.
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!" Addy screamed.
And Stacie let out a shaky "One!"
