Days after the war: Hide's birthday

2 weeks later...

Hide's P.O.V.

Right now me and Kaneki are cuddling on the couch. He was laying his head on my lap and we were holding hands. He had his hair in a ponytail and was wearing a t-shirt and basketball shorts.

"Hide?" He called my name after a few minutes.

"Yes?"

"You're birthday is coming soon, what do you want?"

"Just to spend time with you."

"But we do that every day, Hide. Can think of anything else? Anything at all?" Jeez, he's really wanting to do something for my birthday. I don't really want anything for my birthday. I never really thought much of it as I got older. Although Kaneki still does something for me. I let him because no matter want I do, I can't talk him out of it. And he's a lot more stubborn after these past few years. I thought for a few minutes before saying something.

"Pancakes and for you to eat a meal with me, would be nice." I said.

"Alright." He replied before I leaned down to kiss him on the lips.

"Why do you always want to do something for my birthday? You know I don't care that much about it." I said after we pulled away.

"I know, but you're really special to me. And doing something for you on your birthday, helps me show that."

"Explains why I can never talk you out of it."

Two days later...

I woke up to Kaneki shaking my arm. I was laying on my stomach and hugging my pillow. I was cuddling Kaneki last night, but I think he got before me for once.

"Happy birthday." He said with a smile. Oh, no wonder why he's up before me. He was already dressed in his usual white button up shirt and black jeans. He was also wearing his apron and had flour on his face and apron, he must have taken the pancake thing seriously. He did look adorable with the flour on his face and cloths. His hair was already in its ponytail too.

"Come on, I want to show you something." He said as he took my arm and tried to help me up, but being gentle. I got up and he held my hand all the way to the kitchen table. I also yawned and rubbed my eye on the way there, I did just wake up.

He brought me to the kitchen table, where there was a stack of pancakes on a plate and a glass of milk. He helped me sit down in my chair. As I begin to eat, he got a plate and fork before getting his artificial meat out of the fringe, he did get it yesterday. The artificial meat was in brown paper package. Kaneki came to the table and sat in the chair in front of mine. He put the packaged meat on the plate and tore off a piece of the paper, and picked off some of the meat with the fork before putting the paper back where it was. Then looked away.

I did ask for him to eat a meal with me for my birthday. And he's trying really hard. He's one of the ghouls who don't like to be seen eating, a lot of ghouls don't especially the female ones. Some male ghouls like to be seen eating, it's a dominance thing. But Kaneki's one of the ones that doesn't like to be seen eating, it's anxiety. Something he developed after the dragon war. But we've been able to work that with him. He had a number of panic attacks after he came out of his two week coma. Sometimes I would come home to him banging his head against a wall or hurting himself so much he bleed. He's gotten a LOT better since then.

After we were done, he took the dishes and began to wash them in the sink before putting them in the dishwasher. I went to our room and got dressed. When I was done I walked out of our bedroom and went to the kitchen. I went to Kaneki and wrapped my arms around him, and planted little kisses on the base of his neck. He smiled and leaned into it. I left a trail of kisses up and down his neck. And I moved his ponytail as I went up his neck. He turned around and gave me a kiss on the lips before wrapping his arms around my neck, and rested his head on my shoulder. I wrapped my arms around him and nuzzled my nose into his neck.

"Okay, I want to open your presents." Kaneki said as he pulled away.

"Alright." I said before he went to a closet in the hall way, the one that holds our towels. He had already took off his apron. I sat on the couch before he came back with two wrapped presents. He's always had a natural talent for wrapping gifts. I opened them, one of the presents was a album I wanted to get of a band I really liked. The other one was a action movie that seemed interesting. I hugged him and thanked him for my gifts. He hugged back, smiled, and blushed.

Time skip~~

We laid down in bed for the night. Me and Kaneki had gone to a Big Girl for dinner. I got the usual burger and Kaneki just got a glass of water. When we got done eating and paid for it, we just walked around some of the shops on the sheet. After awhile we just ended up going back home because Kaneki was very tired, probably from waking up before me to make breakfast. Because the longer he sleeps, the longer he'll be awake. On the bright side I got to give him a piggy back ride on the way back home. When I did get us home, he just wanted to go straight to bed. So, I set him on our bed and helped him into his pajamas because he was struggling to stay awake.

Once I got him into pajamas, he laid on the bed as I tucked him in and he snuggled into the blanket. I sighed before getting into my pajamas, brushing my teeth, and washing my face before getting into bed. I laid on my side of the bed as Kaneki slowly rolled over. He laid on top of me and hid his face in the crook of my neck. I wrapped my arms around him and rubbed his back before kissing him on the head.

"I'm sorry I wasn't able to stay awake for longer." He said in a tired voice.

"It's okay, you just need some rest. And thank you for a great birthday."

"You're welcome."

"Can I have a kiss?" I asked before he raised his head.

"Sure." He said before kissing me. I kissed back and put a hand on his cheek. As he was to pulling away, I sucked on his bottom lip a little and he moaned at it. Then he hid his face back in the crook of my neck and nuzzled his nose there.

"I love you." I said before kissing him on the cheek.

"Love you too." He said in a tired voice before falling asleep. I smiled and held him closer before falling asleep.
