Days after the war: in a hospital

2 weeks later...

Hide's P.O.V.

I woke up to the sound of beeping. I don't know how I got here. I was trying to open my eyes to see what the beeping was, when I heard a door open and a gasp before there was foot steps ran towards me. I felt someone pick up and hold my hand.

"It's okay. I'm here, Hide." I knew that voice, Kaneki. He sounded like he had been crying.

"....Kaneki?" I tiredly said as I slowly opened my eyes. I looked at Kaneki, he had dried tears down his cheeks and his eyes were red. He slightly smiled as he saw I was awake.

"Get up here." I said before he climbed onto the hospital the bed. He laid his head on my chest and put a arm around me, gently. I put my arm around his waist. I realized Kaneki was wearing a loose t-shirt, must be one of my shirts based on how loose it is. He started to lightly cry before moving where his ear was right over my heart, and cried some more. Then he nuzzled his nose where my heart is and cried harder. I put my hand under his chin and made him look up. More tears were running down his face. I brought him in for a kiss. He kissed back, but was being very gentle. When he pulled away, I wiped away his tears before he hid his face in the crook of my neck.

"What happened? I asked.

"You don't remember?"

"No."

"You went to the store to go pick something up, you went on your bike. You were gone for hours and it was starting to worry me. I was about to call you when I got a call from the hospital saying you got in some sort of crash. And they wouldn't let me see you until now."

"How bad am I?"

"All you have is a concussion. Do remember anything from yesterday?"

"I remember getting up to make breakfast, but even that's fuzzy. Why are you wearing one of my shirts?"

"I couldn't sleep last night with you not being there. So, I put on one of your shirts like when the TSC sent you to America for two months. But I still couldn't fall asleep. Maybe because you were the in the hospital, and not somewhere else. And I ended up staying up all night. When they called saying I could come see you, I basically threw some pants and shoes on, and I pretty much ran here."

"So, you're tired, aren't you?"

"Yes, but I want to stay awake, so I could keep an eye on you."

"Kaneki, you can go to sleep. The nurses will keep an eye on me."

"But-"

"No buts, Ken. You need to rest. I'll be okay, alright?"

"Fine." He said with a pout. After awhile he fell asleep. I sighed and looked at him. Dried tears were down his cheeks and I finally noticed his eye bags. But he looked peaceful now that he was finally asleep. I kissed him on the forehead as I wrapped my other arm around him.

After a few minutes he shivered and cuddled closer to me. He must to be cold because of the cold air of the hospital. I took the hospital blanket and moved it over him. I made sure he was almost completely covered. He moved in his sleep, so that his head was back over my chest. I kissed him on the head and put my hand in his hair and played with it a little.

I had fallen asleep when I was shaken awake. I groaned as I opened my eyes and saw a nurse. She took my temperature and a blood sample. Kaneki started sniffing in his sleep when the nurse was the blood sample. I thought his sniffing in his sleep was cute, just like him nibbling my fingers in his sleep. But he stopped doing that because he thought he would hurt me if he continued to do it. When the nurse was done she didn't ask why Kaneki was in my hospital bed. She just left and closed the door behind her. I didn't really question it. I only looked down at Kaneki. And I fell asleep again.
