Days after the war: our girl

Kaneki's P.O.V.

"Kaneki! Come here!" Hide said from the living room. I was in the kitchen, making dinner. I turned the stove off and went to the living room.

"Hide, why d-" I was cut off by me gasping. Ichika was standing up and had taken a few steps towards Hide. It was her first steps, she is 8 months old. Hide had his arms out for her as she took a few stumbled steps towards him. I sat a few feet away from her as she finally got to Hide. He held her up and she held onto his shirt.

"Dada!" She said as she pointed at Hide.

"Yeah, that's me." He said as he held her little hand. A few happy tears were running down my face. Hide noticed. "Hey, papa's lonely. Why don't you go over to him?" He said before Ichika looked at me.

"Uh oh." She said in her cute little voice. She pointed to me and put her other hand on her mouth as she was looking back at Hide.

"Yes, 'uh oh' is right. Papa doesn't like to be lonely. Come on, go to him." He said before turning her to face me and sporting her. He moved some of her hair behind her ear and kissed her behind her ear. "Now go." He said before taking his hands off her and she started taking a few steps towards me. She was half way to me when she fell right on her butt. I was worried she was hurt, but she got right back up and continued taking her little steps towards me. She wasn't giving up on her little mission to get to me.

I already had my arms out for her when she finally got to me. She pulled on my shirt as I picked her up and held her close. I started crying tears of joy as I kissed her on her head. Hide walked over to us and sat next to me. Then he hugged me. I stopped crying after a little bit.

"Why are you crying?" Hide asked.

"Be-because she's growing up. And I-I'm just so happy."

"You just feel loved, don't you?"

"Y-yes." I said before Hide kissed me on the cheek.
