Days after the war: another day

Kaneki's P.O.V.

I woke up in the middle of the night to Ichika crying. I saw her little hands reaching up, while she was in her crib. I started to get up when someone put there hand on my shoulder and gently pushed me down. I was so tired that I didn't fight against it.

"It's okay I got her, Kaneki. You need to rest." Hide said. I didn't say anything in response before he got up and climbed over me. I saw Hide go over to Ichika's crib before I fell back asleep.

The next morning, I woke up with the sun in my eyes. I was about to get up, when I felt a pair of little hands grab the back of my t-shirt. I turned my head to look behind me. I saw a happy, and fully awake, Ichika. I rolled onto my back and sat up. Then I picked her up and set her on my lap. She giggled and reached her arms to grab my lip, but she just put her hand against my mouth. I chuckled before looking to my left as Ichika pulled on my hair. I barely gave a reaction to it, I'm just used to it by now. She loves to pull on mine and Hide's hair, but she pulls on mine more. Maybe because it's longer or the fact that it's white, so it looks more pretty to her compared to Hide's hair.

I saw Hide sleeping on his back. He was lightly snoring too. I chuckled at him, then I looked back at Ichika, who was starting to pull on my shirt. And had some drool down her chin.

"Hey, want to help me wake up dad?" I asked, and she only smiled in response. I gently set her on Hide's chest, but her feet made it all the way to his stomach. After a couple minutes, she let out a happy and high pitched sequel. Which Hide woke up at the sound, and was a little startled by it. But he saw Ichika on top of him and smiled, and put his hand on her back.

"Good morning." I said with a genuine smile.

"Morning." He said before I leaned down to kiss him. After I pulled away, I kissed Ichika on her head. "You can go take a shower and get ready, I can take care of her." Hide said as he sat up and held onto Ichika.

"You sure?"

"Positive."

"Alright." I said before getting up. I opened a few drawers to get a long sleeved shirt, jeans, and a pair of boxers. Then I went to the bathroom and closed the bathroom door behind me as I walked inside. I took my pajamas off and turned on the water. When it was warm enough, I stepped in.

Once I was done, I stepped out and dried off. Then I got into my clothes and put my hair in a ponytail before I walked out of the bathroom. I saw Hide in the kitchen, holding Ichika with one arm and putting a few dishes in the sink, he must have eaten breakfast. I walked to him hugged him.

"Well, hello." He said.

"Did you feed Ichika?"

"Yes."

"Burp her?"

"Yes."

"Good."

"Do you think we can go outside today?"

"Where would we go? We have Ichika."

"Maybe the park. Little missy will need some sun, so that she doesn't become as pale as you." He said before I slapped his shoulder. He laughed at me.

"I see what you mean. We could go to the park. But you'll have to get ready first."

"Alright." He said before handing me Ichika. Then he when to our room and he came out in a t-shirt and jeans. We got our shoes on and Hide got the baby bag since I was carrying Ichika. He locked the front door as we walked out of the house. As we walked to the park, Ichika looked around and was amazed by everything. The light blowing wind, the noises, and everything that was round us. The outdoors is probably more exciting then our quiet house, which is calming but Ichika needs to experience more then that.

I'm just thankful Tokyo isn't the same way it was. Ichika won't have to go through the fear if being hunted or having to kill in order to eat. She can express she's a ghoul and go to school when she's old enough. I love her with all my heart, along with Hide, and I'll protect her.

When we did get to the park, we just walked around a little. A few moms we bummed into thought Ichika was my biological daughter, but we did explain that she's adopted and me and Hide are married. They were a little surprised by it, but accepted it.

The way the world is now anything is possible.
