This is a human AU, set when gay and lesbian marriage was illegal. Above is the sign that Patton made.

"Hey, hey, ho, ho, homophobics' got to go!" Was yelled all over the concrete street and the courtyards as Patton and Virgil squeezed through groups and crowds of people, searching for Virgil's boyfriend Roman. Patton noticed his friend-sons nervous look.

"Virgil? Are you okay you want to be here? You don't like big crowds like this. And just because Roman and I are coming doesn't mean that you have to." Patton asked, worried, as he saw Virgil searching for his boyfriends signature golden crown white shirt and red sash.

"I-It's fine, really. And you worked hard on y-your sign, I should support it. A-And I support gay marriage. I want to gay marriage." He laughed. "A-And if I have such a hard time, R-Roman can take me somewhere m-maybe." Patton sighed.

"Okay, if you're sure ki-"

"VIRGIL!" He heard Roman yell. They both stopped moving and Roman joined their sides. "Hey, Patton." He said, kissing his dad-friend's cheek friendly. "Hello, Virgil!" He said before kissing his boyfriend sweetly, making Virgil blush. Yes, they had gone out for the past year and a half, but it was still new to him.

"Let's go."

"Hey, Pat," Roman started, getting Patton's attention. "That person had the same sign as you." They both laugh.

"We should go meet them!" Patton said. Virgil was anxious, but held Roman's hand and followed them as they made their way towards the other person. "Excuse me," Patton said, tapping the person's shoulder. They turned, revealing a pale face dotted with impossibly paler freckles, hetero-chromatic blue and green eyes, black glasses and dark brown hair that faded into dark blue. "Woah." Patton quickly said. "I--uh--er, W-We..." He looked up at his sign, which was still being held.

"We had the same idea for a sign. That is... Rare." He said. Patton smiled before gasping happily.

"We have the same glasses too!" Patton exclaimed, his nervousness seemingly fading into nothing. But the other man he seemed to grow. Roman smirked while Virgil just stood behind Roman, clinging to his arm.

The man stayed silent before swallowing and speaking. "Y-Yep." Roman glanced at Patton, who was beaming despite the reason he was there was to protest laws. He looked at their signs. The other man's letters were neatly cut while Patton's letters were painted on by a literal child.

"How did you make your sign?" The man asked. Patton sheepishly smiled. He hadn't made it, his student had. Patton was an art teacher.

"O-Oh. I'm an art teacher at MCS. We were having a free day and one of my students, Thomas, gave me the idea. He knew I was coming to this rally, said I needed a sign." Patton nervously laughed. "So I painted an old pizza box. And nailed it to a plank of wood." Logan raised an eyebrow.

"Thomas? Sanders?" Patton smiled.

"Yeah, how'd you know?"

"He's my science student. I was unaware of his support of the LGBTQ+ community." Logan said. Patton giggled again.

"Yeah. Logan, he's gay." Patton said.

"Oh. In hindsight, that makes sense. He begged me to sit him next to-"

"Jon Cozart?"

"Yeah," Logan confirmed.

"I'm surprised that we haven't seen each other around the school. I've worked there for almost 2 years now." Patton said. Logan swallowed nervously.
