Logan and Patton have always been friends. Ever since they were young. Logan sat next to Patton in kindergarten and Patton was fascinated by his eyes.

Logan had heterochromia. He didn't know (at least as a child) how. He had one of his mother's sapphire blue eyes on his left and on his right was his father's seafoam green eyes. And this was a problem as a child because it wasn't normal to have multicoloured eyes, so the other kids found it strange. And when he tried to make friends, it didn't work.

But Patton wanted to be his friend. And so from that day forward, they were best friends.
Patton did have other friends. There was a lot of people actually. A lot of other base clefs, because he played the trombone, and the cheerleading squad, which he was the head of, and a lot of people in student government. But Logan would always be his best friend.

Over time it began to be very clear that they have different personalities. Logan was interested in studies and science and math, he wanted to be a teacher. While Patton had more of an interest for animals and comedy, he wanted to be a vet and a dad.
But they were still best friends. And they would always stay that way.

And they spent every day together.
When Logan and Patton were 7, Patton's mothers moved next door to Logan's house. And they were together all the time.

But the day that they were together the most was on Valentine's day.

This started on Valentine's day of kindergarten.
Kids were supposed to give a valentine to everyone. But almost every kid didn't give one to Logan. The only one who did was Patton.

Everyone loved Patton. How could you not? And he got dozens of valentines. There were only 22 people in the kindergarten class. And Patton got 40 valentines. Some people gave him two. But most of those came from Logan. Logan hand-made Patton's valentine. And he did 13 of them. He couldn't decide which one he wanted to give to Patton, so he just gave all of them to him.
That and 10 fun dip packets, which was Patton's favourite candy.

And no one but Patton gave Logan a valentine. And Logan got 23 Valentines. And one of those heart chocolate boxes.

And every Valintine's day from that year forward, they spent together. As friends.

...

Then in the tenth grade, there was a new student.

This student's name was Caliah. Caliah was a rude, homophobic bitch. Not my words, they're Roman and Virgil's. And she was one of Patton's greatest friends. Because he was the first person she met. And she sat at Logan and Patton's Lunch Table™

"Who's this, Patton?" Logan asked. Caliah was practically sitting on top of Patton. Patton did seem mildly uncomfortable, but he wanted everyone to be happy.

"This is Caliah Darkk. She just moved here."

Over the months, Caliah just kept flirting with Patton, seemingly trying to separate Logan and Patton, and followed him like a dog.

...

Not a dog. Dogs are cute. An obsessive stalker is far more accurate. Yeah.

"I can't believe her! She's just taking my Patton from me! She has no right to do that! Patton's been my best friend! Not hers, mine! My best friend! I love him more than she ever could!" Logan yelled at Roman. Roman was the head of the football team and was the lead in every school production. Patton made friends with him, and Logan just kind of caught on. They weren't the closest, but Logan figured he knew the most about emotions.

"Sounds like you're jealous."

"I know, I'm jealous, that's what I've been saying! But I have a reason! Patton's being so sweet to her, like he was to me, when she's such a liar! If she takes my Patton Valentine's Day, I'M GONNA LOSE IT!" Logan yelled. Roman looked at him confused.

"You haven't lost it yet?"

"Not entirely."

"Look, Logan. You sound crazy. Patton's gay, you know this." Roman said. Logan just looked at Roman, crazy eyes but he looked confused. "You did... know that, didn't you?" He asked.

"No! Why do you know that?" Logan asked.

"He told me! I always just thought that you knew, you and Patton are best friends! It seemed like something you would share! Doesn't Patton know that you're gay?" Roman asked. Logan relaxed from crazy but receded back into nervous. "He doesn't know that you're gay?-- Logan! What on earth are you thinking? It's like one of the most important things ever! My best friend knows that I'm gay!" Roman practically yelled.

"Only because your best friend is your quote 'sex friend' unquote. Of course, Virgil knows you're gay." Logan said, exaggeratingly.

"That's not-"

"Look, I really care about Patton. And we have spent every valentine together for years. If he spends it with Caliah, I might just die of sadness." Logan said. That was really stupid. "Help me, please."

"Well, I'm spending my Valintine's Day with my boyfriend. Or, and I know I've done this too, as you call him my 'sex friend'. Anyway, we're going to the valentine's dance. The one that they hold every year, but you guys decide not to go to because you don't like having fun. And I know that Patton wants to go this year. And it has nothing to do with Caliah. I also know that he wants to go with you, but you never ask. So, you should ask." Roman said. Logan looked at him like he was crazy. Hypocrite. Roman stood up, as to emphasize his point. "Come on, Logan. It would mean so much to him, you want to do something special."

"I know. I'm merely thinking of everything that could possibly go wrong. What if he says no, what if he's already going with-"

"Just ask him. It's simple. Just ask-"

"Patton, will you go to the dance with me? I know we've never done it before, but I think it'll be fun." Logan asked, getting a hug from Patton.

"Absolutely, Lo!" Caliah grimaced at Logan.

"Can I tag along? I don't really have anything else to do, and you guys are just friends, right? I can go with Patton and Logan can come too!" Caliah said. Patton pulled away from Logan but kept his arm around his hips.

"That's really up to Logan. What do you think Lo-Lo?" Patton asked. His voice was kind and flowy. Say no.

"I'm sorry, Caliah, but Valentine's Day is our day."

Patton was so excited. And so was Logan. He just didn't show it. They were in the gym, at the dance. It was beautiful. Pink and red fairy lights, hearts everywhere you turned. A few couples were making out by the walls, including Virgil and Roman.

"Hey, Lo, you wanna dance?" Patton asked, excitedly. Logan hid his smile and nodded and Patton led him to the middle of the gym. They danced to the slow music. "So what made this year different than the other years? The years where we spent all night watching Disney movies? Why did you want to go to the dance this year, Lo?"

"I, uh. I'm gay." Patton giggled.

"I know."

"What?"

"I mean, I'm gay. Oh, and Roman told me." Patton said before giggling.

"You can't tell that guy anything can you-"

"No, you can't," Patton said. He sighed and looked down. "I assume this means that you also know that I've been in love with you for the past 7 years?" Patton asked. Logan's eyes widened.

"What?"

"What?"

"I didn't know," Logan told Patton.

"Oh."

"But I'm glad I know," Logan said. Patton looked up at Logan.

"Why?"

"I love you too, Patton," Logan said before pressing a kiss to his best friend's lips.
