AU- Human, roommate, takes place during quarantine
TW- Patton cries"Hey, Patton?" Logan asked, as he approached the smiling young man.
"Yes, Logan? What do you need?" He asked happily, looking up at the taller male.
"How do you manage to be so happy all the time? It's good that you are happy, I just don't know how you manage to do it," Logan explained. Patton bounced slightly on his toes.
"I just like to think about the fact that things are really okay in the end. Things could be worse and there are still good things in life! And we're still friends! That's the best thing!" He said before wrapping his arms around Logan and hugging him tightly. Logan certainly didn't expect that answer. He didn't expect Patton to hug him either. Patton pulled away from Logan and saw his stunned face. "I hope hugging you was okay." He said nervously.
"It was more than okay. I enjoyed it." Patton smiled and hugged Logan again.
From that day forward, when Logan was feeling bad, he would think about Patton. Being his friend. The unknown feeling in his chest and stomach he would get when he was around, which was somehow nervous but reassuring and calming.
Today, when he exited his room, he didn't see Patton like he usually did. He merely saw Roman with Virgil on his lap while watching a Disney movie. Only Virgil was his roommate, Roman was Virgil's boyfriend and spent 99% of his time there. They lived in the same building, so whenever he left it was only to get clothes. But the point is, Patton wasn't there.
"Where is Patton?" Logan asked, adjusting his glasses.
"His room, I think. He hasn't left since lunch yesterday." Virgil said. "I think he left to use the restroom once or twice, but he took some granola bars and water in his room and hasn't really come out again." Logan sighed, but knew that it was the right thing to do.
He knocked on his best friends door. No response. Logan walked in. For the record, Patton had given him permission to come inside if he hadn't given a response. He shut the door softly after seeing that he wasn't asleep. He was laying down with his head away from the door, but there were soft sniffles coming from him.
"Patton? Are you alright?" He asked. Patton sat up, wiping his face.
"O-Oh, hey Lo, I was just... resting." He said, putting on his glasses and a smile. Logan sat on Patton's desk chair and looked at him.
"Patton, please do not lie to me. I've been your friend for years. I can tell when you're sad because it happens on such rare occasion that I recognise it when you aren't happy. What's wrong?" Logan asked. Patton sniffled before letting the tears that he was holding back escape his eyes.
"It's just... there's so much going on! We can't work, so many people have died, it's so hard to think about so much more that can go wrong! Which makes it harder to think of the chance that things may get better! This entire thing is just s-so terrifying! And what makes things worse, so much worse..." He said before letting out a shaky breath. "Is that I can't do anything about it! I can't do anything to help this situation! I can't help, Logan!" Patton cried. Logan held his arms out signalling for a hug, which Patton understood and wrapped his arms around his torso in tears.
"Patton, things will all be okay." He said, petting his friend's hair. "The reason that we can't go to work is because we need to terminate this as soon as possible. And yes, things can go wrong, but people are working their hardest to help. And this is scary, I'm not going to try and convince you that it isn't. But we have each other. We'll all get through this together-- you and I will get through this together." Logan said, with sweetness in his voice, a rare occasion. "And you can help. Just by being yourself. You've always raised our spirits by just being yourself. You're an amazing person and we all love you so much." Logan took a breath. "Patton, seeing you this way tears me apart. It's healthy to be sad, but I still care about you enough that it hurts me to see you like this."
"I-I'm sorry, Logan." Patton said. He had calmed down by now, he had stopped crying, and you could tell in his voice.
"No! I mean, it's alright. And just remember, no matter what, we'll always be friends." Patton sniffled again as he pulled away. New, fresh tears escaped his eyes.
"Please get out of my room." He said, tears escaping his eyes.
"Patton, what's wrong now?" Logan asked. "I know you told me to leave, but I can't leave knowing that you're sad on my conscious. My apologies." Patton sighed, wiping his tears.
"It's okay, I think it's sweet." He said as more tears escaped his eyes. "Which makes things worse." He mumbled. Logan took his best friend's freckled hand.
"What's wrong, Patton?" He asked soulfully.
"Fine. But if you get mad and don't want to be my friend anymore, it's your fault." Patton said, sadly. Logan nodded. "Being reminded that we'll always be friends is more painful than anything else in the world." He said, confusing Logan.
"Why--"
"Because I don't want to be your friend, Logan!" He exclaimed, standing up and taking his hand away from Logan. He turned away facing the wall, afraid. Logan's heart dropped. He had never been this dismal before. He felt broken. He and Patton had been best friends since middle school. And now he was told that he wasn't wanted by the person that he loved more than anyone else in the world. He held back his tears.
"O-Oh. I understand." He said, standing up. "I guess, I'll--"
"No!" Patton said, turning back around and taking Logan's hand as quickly as he could. "I-I mean... I want to be more than your friend. I..." He looked down at his feet. "I like you... I like you a lot. Romantically. And it took me way too long to realise that I felt this way towards you. But you telling me that we'll always be friends... it's so painful. Knowing that you'll never feel the same way towards me." Patton said. Logan didn't expect that either. But he finally had a name for this new feeling that he had been feeling for Patton. Patton took his hand away from Logan. "You can leave my life forever now."
"N-No! I think I like you too. Romantically." Patton's eyes widened.
"That's amazing! D-Do you want to be boyfriends?" He asked happily. "I-I mean, you don't have to if you don't want to, but since we both like each other it's the logical conclusion to--" Logan put his finger to Patton's mouth.
"Patton. I would love to be your boyfriend. And I would be ecstatic to have you be my boyfriend." Logan said, pulling his hand away from his new boyfriend's lips. He held Patton's face, stepping a bit closer. "Could... Could I kiss you, Patton?" He asked. Patton smiled.
"Yes, yes of course." He said before standing on his tip toes to kiss Logan.
He was feeling much better now. All thanks to Logan.
AN- Okay, this was a little heavy, but also shorter than usual, and I'm sorry for both of those things. I haven't written in a while either, and I'm sorry for that as well. I hope you enjoyed this, thanks for reading!
