S1 E34: The Anniversary

It was a new day. Tuesday, in fact. The day of the make-up exams. Adrien could feel his heart racing as he entered the the school with Marinette at his side. They stopped outside the door of Miss Bustier's classroom.

Marinette took his hands in her own. "You're okay, Adrien. We studied endlessly last night. Don't you feel ready?"

"Y-Yeah," the blond nodded, "but what if I get nervous or something? I don't want to blow this. I don't want to have to limit your visits."

"Come on, chéri." Marinette kissed his hands. "You're a natural test taker. You've always been a grade A student. One screw up won't change that. And you studied this time. You are going to go in there and do great."

"Yeah." Adrien replied, gaining some confidence. "Yeah, I will!"

Marinette smiled. "Now, go. I'll hang around here until you're finished."

Adrien frowned. "You're not coming in with me?"

Marinette shrugged. "I did well on all my tests this quarter. I've no reason to retake any of them. And, I want the free hour to talk to Alya."

"Okay, I'll see you later." He pressed his palms together. "Pray for me."

Marinette giggled. "I will."

Adrien smiled, pressing a prolonged kiss to her cheek before whispering, "I love you."

Then he quickly disappeared into the classroom. Marinette blinked, holding her cheek as she felt her face become warm. "I... love you too..."

Suddenly, Marinette felt a pressure on her shoulder to find Alya leaning on her with a grin against her lips.

"Did I miss something?"

Marinette exhaled. "Oh, boy. Okay, time to catch you up."

"Okay, for the few students who are retaking a test from this quarter, please take a seat by a scantron and fill it out." Miss Bustier instructed. "In a few minutes, I'll ask you to come up and take the test of your choosing."

Nino sat beside his best friend. "Sup, dude?"

Adrien smiled. "Hey, Nino! You are retaking a test, too?"

"Yeah," Nino replied, fixing his cap. "Totally bombed the Of Mice and Men essay a couple weeks ago."

"I'm sure you'll do better this time," Adrien said, beginning to fill out his scantron. "Hey, Nino, what's the date?"

"December 20th."

Upon hearing that date, Adrien's heart stopped for just a moment. He dropped his pencil and took a shaky breath.
