Lila's a lying little brat, but what if her manipulative tactics backfire on her when trying to get closer to Adrien? Gabriel Agreste, finding truth in the sly girl's words, believes maybe Adrien really is b...
Suddenly, Marinette's eyes fluttered open. "Happy New Years to you too, Adrien."
Adrien gasped and stepped back, and Marinette did the same and sat up.
"You're awake!" Adrien covered his mouth with his hands.
"I'm awake!" Marinette laughed excitedly, feeling her body and face to make sure it was real. "Holy crud! I'm awake! Yes!"
Tikki and Plagg, who were cuddled up on the edge of the bed, felt Marinette's movement and woke up. The red kwami immediately burst into tears and hugged Marinette's cheek, kissing her nose.

"M--, you're awake!"
Marinette giggled. "Yes, I am!"
The spotted kwami bit her lip, trying to calm her tears. "D-Don't scare me like that again!"
"Oh, Tikki, I won't." Marinette rubbed away the kwami's tears. "I promise."
"M-Marinette!" Plagg sobbed, hugging the girl as well.
"Plagg?" Marinette held the kwami in her palms. "I didn't expect you to be so affected by this. I-I didn't think you even liked me that much."
Plagg blinked. "W-What made you think that? I-I know we've only met each other a few times, b-but I thought we were friends."
"You have always been so indifferent with me, I couldn't tell."
"Oh..." Plagg's ears flattened. "I-I'm sorry..."
"It's okay, Plagg." Marinette smiled, rubbing away the cat's tears, and held him closely. "We can be friends now."
Plagg nodded, his sobs subsiding. "I'm glad you're back, Marinette."
Plagg purred beneath her finger stroking her head. Marinette smiled before she looked up to Adrien who hasn't moved a muscle. His hands remained over his mouth as he shook immensely and tears built in his eyes. Marinette placed the cat gently beside his counterpart on the bed and reached for Adrien's hand, which he avoided.
"It's okay, Adrien." Marinette reached to his hand again and this time, he took it. "Come here, Kitty."
Adrien sat on the bed but could only stare at her in shock. "M-Marinette?"
The bluebell eyed girl nodded. Adrien let out an excited laugh before frowning again. "B-But I watched you die, Mari. S-So many times! You're heart stopped and restarted and stopped again!"
Marinette hushed him and placed his hand to her chest. "Feel that? It's beating, baby. And it beats for you."
Adrien nodded, biting back a sob. "Mari, I wasn't okay when you were gone. I-I... um... look..." He showed her his bandaged hands.
Marinette frowned, unsurprised, as she held his hands in front of her. "Oh, Adrien, you are just like your father..."
Adrien's heart sank. After all that has happened, the last thing he wanted was to be reminded of his father, much less compared to him.
