‘so what about that place?’ I asked, when we past another sign.
‘I don’t know, do you want to go there?’ Luke asked.
‘I don’t know, do you want to go there?’ I retorted his question.
‘I want it if you want it’
I sighed and took a bite of my sandwich.
‘Just pick one,’ Luke said, smiling widely.
He clearly found it very amusing that I couldn’t chose a place to go to.
‘You can’t go wrong with this. You don’t even have to pick right now, you can just look at the signs everywhere and when you see something you like just tell me. We’ve still got about 2 hours left before we arrive in Piha so we have all the time.’
‘but I can’t chose,’ I mumbled.
‘I never had to make any decisions’
‘There’s a first time for everything. Just try it, I did it with rainbow falls remember? I was never planning on going there it just happened. It’s really not that hard you just have to get over your indecisiveness’ Luke answered.
He glanced over at me with a reassuring smile on his face.
‘I’ll never get over my indecisiveness,’ I took another bite of my sandwich and looked out of the window
‘But I’ll try and pick something’
Luke nodded in agreement and tapped his finger on the steering wheel on the beat of the music.
I noticed he did that a lot, sometimes he even softly sang along when he thought I was sleeping.
Another half hour past and I continued staring at the signs on the side of the highway.
‘What about that one?’ I asked. Pointing to the sign.
‘Which one?’ Luke answered.
‘It said Limestone Island’
‘Do you want to go there?’
I was about to ask him if he wanted to but I changed my mind and nodded.
‘I do’
‘See, that was not so hard was it?’  Luke excitedly said, he put his hand on my knee, squeezing it softly and then put it back on the steering wheel.
I smiled as I felt my cheeks flush.
Why did they always have to do that?
‘I guess not’
Another half hour past and Luke stopped the car in a parking lot.
‘We do have to go there with the boat’ He said when he looked around.
‘I know, that’s alright. I can handle something.’
We got out of the car and Luke opened the trunk.
We filled the bag with food and drinks just like all the times before.
I watched as Luke closed the bag, I slowly grabbed my parents’ letter out of my pocket and held it tightly in between my hands.
I looked at it and then slowly put it in my suitcase, just to make sure it wouldn’t fall in the water, I didn’t want to ruin one of the 3 things I had of them.
Luke cautiously looked at me, ready to pick up the pieces if I decide to start sobbing again, but I wasn’t planning on doing that.
Not yet at least.
I closed my suitcase but was stopped by Luke grabbing my wrist.
‘Wait,’ he said, a little smile forming on his face.
He opened the backpack again and started looking through his own suitcase.
‘Take something with you that you don’t mind getting wet’ he said, as he found what he was looking for and dropped the piece of clothing in the bag.
‘Like a swimsuit or a bikini or something?’
‘Do you have that?’ He looked at me, slightly surprised.
‘Of course I do, you probably even packed it yourself’ I laughed at him and grabbed the bikini I had.
Thinking about it, it might sound weird for him that I have one, but my mom always gave me money to do some online shopping (I am really not as stupid as everyone thinks) and I found this bikini and just thought I’d buy it. Not that I expected to actually wear it outside of my house but like Luke said, there’s a first time for everything.
I dropped it in the bag and followed Luke as he walked to the boat that would bring us to Limestone Island.
