The rest of the morning was pretty uneventful. Brandon went back to playing video games, Austin went to the basement to do the same and Cassidy had offered to clean up breakfast since the boys made everything. Once she was done, she made her way up to Brandon's room.
Cassidy leaned against the door frame, per usual and waited for her brother to take notice.
"Hey, Cass." He didn't look up.
"Hey, I just wanted to come see what's up. We haven't really talked in a while. How's school?" Cassidy remained in her spot in the doorway.
"It's good." Was all she got.
"Look B. I know it sucks, but I really just want to make sure everything's okay. You used to tell me everything. I'm not your mom you know? I'm just... trying to make sure you're okay like she would.." Brandon was quiet. Deep down, he knew that's what she was doing. Since their mom passed, he's kept to himself more than normal and hasn't really talked to Cassidy or hung out with her like they used to.
"I know. I'm sorry. It's just harder now for some reason. But, things are good. I don't get shit from that kid anymore... I did make some really cool friends, and-"
"Any girls I should know about?" Cassidy teased.
"Cassss." He turned back to the TV. "No, I don't have a girlfriend Cassidy."
"But you like her." It wasn't a question. "Okay okay. You know as your big sister It's my job to annoy the shit out of you right?" Cassidy moved into the room and sat next to him on his bed.
"If I say yes will you drop it?"
"Worth a shot right?"
"Fine! Yes! There's a girl that I'm kinda talking to. But like, I'm trying to be smart and not tell her who I fucking live with. She wants to hang out all the time but like, it's hard." This broke his sister's heart.
"Look. How about you invite her over tonight. Tell her that you have something important to show her and we can hang out. Do you think this girl can look past Post Malone and get to know Austin and all?"
"Yeah, I do. She's really cool. Her name is Lea." He smiled.
"Okay. Well. Invite her over. And let me know what she says. We can order some food or something and just hang out."
"Okay. Thank you, Cass." Brandon pulled his phone from his pocket and Cassidy walked out. She was ready to head down to the basement, but as she reached the main level of the house, she saw Austin sitting in the backyard smoking a cigarette.
"There you are." She smiled as she walked to where he was sitting.
"Here I am." He blew the smoke from his mouth and smiled. "What's up, baby?"
"So, I was just talking to Brandon and he told me he's been talking to this girl Lea from school. So. I told him, that if he thought she could handle it, to invite her over and we can all kinda chill. This girl has apparently been trying to hang out with Austin for a while but he's been kinda hesitant to invite her over. I guess because he doesn't want her to think different of him."
"Okay. I'm okay with that. I want Brandon to have a normal life too." He smiled as he held his hand out to Cassidy. She took it in his and he pulled her closer. She bent down and pecked his lips.
"Love you." Austin smiled.
"I love you too Austin. I can't thank you enough.."

About an hour later, Brandon was practically pacing in the kitchen as he waited for Lea to show up. Cassidy overheard him give her a call from his room to give her a heads up as to what she was going to be walking into.
She definitely sounded skeptical but was able to prove it by FaceTiming her and showing her his office, where a few of his plaques and all do the guitars were hanging. He made her promise that she couldn't tell anyone and she was very sweet about telling him she wouldn't.
Austin and Cassidy sat out back on the patio to giving Brandon some space. Austin of course, smoking a cigarette and holding a bud light in his other hand.
"He's so nervous Aust. It's fucking cute." Cassidy was peeking through the back door into the house.
"Well yeah, he's 17 about to have his, well, what I understand to be his first girlfriend over. Plus, I think he's nervous because of the shit that happened when he moved out here."
"Well yeah. He did say that he was nervous about telling her he lived with you. He doesn't want that to be the only reason she likes him."
"That kids fucking smart Cass. You can't deny that." Austin snuffed out his cigarette and dropped the butt into his empty beer can.
"I know. I'm really proud of him." Cassidy looked back into the house just in time to see Brandon opening the front door. "She's here!" Cassidy whispered a bit too loud.
Austin leaned forward to peek inside the house as well. Brandon let Lea in and gave her a quick hug. He glanced towards the back of the house to see his sister and Austin looking inside the house, he had to stifle a laugh before leading Lea through the house and out the back door.
"Lea," Brandon sighed nervously. "This is my sister Cassidy, and, Austin.."
"Hi! It's nice to meet you!" Cassidy spoke up first.
"Hey, Lea! How are you?" Austin spoke up next. Lea stood there, clearly a bit nervous.
"Wow, it's uh, it's really nice to meet you!" Lea spoke up as she waved at Austin.
"You didn't believe him did you?" Austin teased.
"I wanted to.." she laughed. "But like, it's kinda hard to believe ya know." Austin nodded, and Lea blushed slightly.
"Well, I'm glad you came over!" Cassidy spoke up to break a bit of the awkwardness that filled the air.
Over the next few hours, the 4 of them sat in the living room watching movies, eating snacks and getting to know Lea.
Cassidy and Austin both were happy to see that Lea was a great fit for Brandon. They both hoped whatever they had going on would work out for the two of them.
"So, Brandon told me that you guys are from Baltimore. What is the east coast like? I've never been outside of California."
"You're not missing much. It's cold in the winter and humid in the summer." Brandon spoke up.
"Don't listen to him. It's not that bad. The weather does kinda suck, but at least back home we had actual seasons. Here, it's just hot. I miss hoodie weather." Cassidy rolled her eyes at her bother being dramatic. Cassidy felt Austin place his hand on her thigh.
"I can tell you miss it. Why don't we go visit?"
"I don't think I'm ready to go home, Aust..." Cassidy spoke quickly. Austin got the hint and dropped it immediately.
