Virgil woke up, as usual. His thoughts were on overdrive and he groans as he walks to his closet to get dressed.
He pulls on his normal clothes, not feeling like it was any type of special day so he didn't feel like he needed to dress well.
He sighs, walking downstairs.
Surprisingly, no one was there.
He gets confused.
Usually, Patton would be there, making pancakes or something.
Usually, Logan would be sitting at the table, drinking his coffee and grimacing every time Patton made a food-related pun.
Usually, Roman would be dancing around the kitchen, attempting to help but Patton would end up just telling him to sit down.
Usually, Virgil would walk in and sit at the table, slouching terribly and smiling at his fellow sides as he scrolled through Tumblr.
Usually, they would all greet him.
"Hey, kiddo!"
"Greetings, Emo Nightmare!"
"Salutations, Virgil."
He feels his heart drop as he grabs a cereal box from out of the cabinet, pouring some into a bowl and then pouring in the milk.
Virgil scrolls through Tumblr as he eats.
Usually, Patton would scold him, telling him that meals were times they would hang out and talk with each other.
He takes a shaky breath, dumping whatever he had left in the sink as he lost his appetite.
Usually, Roman would convince him to eat the rest of his food.
He rushed back to his room, not wanting to be there any longer.
Usually, Logan would convince him to do a Jigsaw puzzle with him before going back to his room.
Usually, that would escalate to them all cuddling on the couch, watching a Disney movie.
He wipes his eyes, refusing to start crying. Maybe they were busy...
Maybe they hate you...
Maybe they just wanted to sleep in.
Maybe they hate you.
Maybe...
They just weren't having a good day...
Maybe they hate you.
Maybe...
Maybe they hate you.
They were sick...?
They hate you.
He covers his mouth, choking back a sob.
They despise you.
He squeezes his eyes shut, collapsing in the hallway. He leans on the wall and grabs his chest, unable to breathe.
They don't want you.
He lets out a choked sob.
They think you're a monster.
Suddenly, a pair of arms wrap around him. And then another. And then one more.
He looks up, seeing all of the missing sides.
"Kiddo, are you okay?" Patton asks softly. Virgil sobs, burying his face in Patton's shoulder.
"I th-thought you l-left m-me... I thought y-you h-hated me..." He cries softly. Roman gasps.
"We could never!" He says.
"Roman is indeed right. We were just-" Roman slaps a hand over Logan's mouth.
"Can you never keep a secret? It's called a surprise party for a reason." He instantly realizes what he said and slaps a hand over his mouth. Patton sighs.
"Well, might as well show you since these two can't keep a secret." Patton giggles, helping Virgil up.
"A... Surprise party...? He asks quietly. Patton smiles at him.
"Yep! Don't you remember what today is?" He asks. Virgil thinks for a moment.
"December 19...?" He says in a questioning tone.
"Indeed," Logan says. Roman quickly opens the door to the Imagination to reveal balloons, cupcakes, and cookies. Virgil tears up, gasping softly.
"HAPPY BIRTHDAY VIRGIL!!"
