(Tw. Unsympathetic Patton)

Every trait has its unique ability.

For example, Roman can sense when someone is having a creative block, Virgil can sense when someone is talking behind someone's back, Patton can sense when someone is having a good or bad day, Logan can sense when someone requires assistance, and Remus can sense when someone is doing something stupid.

However, Deceit has probably the most powerful sense.

Deceit can sense and hear every lie a person tells.

Deceit was going about his day. Since it was a Friday afternoon, he didn't have much to do except walk around the Mindscape.

He wasn't having the time of his life but it was better than sitting in his room and withering away like a weed.

Suddenly, he senses someone lying. He quite enjoys hearing the other sides' lying. Sometimes, they're small lies, like 'I didn't eat the cookie', and sometimes they're big lies, like 'I'm doing just fine'.

He chooses to listen to the lie, a sly smile on his face. However, his expression changes drastically when he hears what the side says.

"I love you."

Patton...?

What is Patton doing telling such a big lie like that? Usually, Deceit doesn't mind when a lie is big but this one is going too far.

Deceit knows that Logan is deeply in love with Patton. If he found out that Patton didn't actually love him, he would be devastated.

However, Deceit wouldn't let this go on.

He couldn't let Logan be led on by Patton, even if it hurt him to hurt the side who could easily be taken over by sadness because he didn't understand it.

Deceit walks through the Mindscape, searching for a certain liar. He finds the Moral side in the Commons, sitting on the couch and watching a movie.

Deceit is angered. He snatches up the remote, shutting the TV off. Patton looks at him in shock.

"Hey! Turn that back on!" He says.

"You are a liar. You're a liar and a terrible one, at that." Deceit snaps at him. Patton stands up, crossing his arms.

"I don't know what you're talking about," Patton responds. The sentence sends off Deceit's sense. He shakes his head.

"Lie. Try again." Deceit says. Patton stares.

"How do you know?" Patton asks. Deceit stares, dumbfounded.

"You're joking, right? You know those little senses in our heads? You can sense what kind of a day someone is having. I can sense when someone tells a lie. If I so desire, I can also know what the lie was. I always do want to know what the lie is. You, sir, are a terrible person." Deceit snaps, pointing an accusatory finger at Patton. Patton scoffs.

"I'm not a terrible person. I'm protecting Logan's feelings." Patton, again, sets off Deceit's sense.

"You know, for the Moral side, I would have thought you would lie a lot less." He hisses. "You aren't helping anyone by lying. The more you pretend, the more you hurt somebody else for your pleasure. Now try again."

Deceit waves his hand and Patton's ability to lie...

Goes away.

"It is for my pleasure. I like hurting people, especially people who are already emotionally unstable." Patton covers his mouth, staring at Deceit in shock. Deceit was smirking.

"Oh? And why is that, Patton?" Deceit asks. Patton automatically uncovers his mouth, as if the truth was being drawn from his lips.

"It makes it to where I can help them get over it and they'll still trust me because I may have hurt them but afterwards, I still care for them." Patton covers his mouth again. "H-how are you doing that?" He asks shakily, his voice muffled from his hands. Deceit chuckles.

"Oh, I have a way of... Forcing people to tell me the truth. I don't use it often, but for pricks like you..." He trails off, taking a breath to calm himself. "I make exceptions."

"So... Does that mean I can't lie anymore?" Patton asks.

"Indeed it does. But, you know, as the Moral side..." He stops looking at Patton with a glare. "That shouldn't be a problem." Patton lets out a sharp breath.

"But you can! You don't have to give my ability to lie back! I don't need it!" Patton says. He looks down at himself, shell-shocked.

"Oh, I know that! Which is why I'm not giving it back." Deceit says.

"Yes! I did say that! I meant that!" He says.

"I know! I'm glad you agree with me, Patton." Deceit says, smiling condescendingly. Patton stares at Deceit, mouth wide. He's not going to get anywhere with this.

"Is everything alright down here?" A voice asks. Deceit and Patton both turn towards the stairs to see Logan.

"Oh! Hi Logie! Everything is going great!" Patton says happily. Deceit stares at Patton, eyes narrowed. Logan smiles softly.

"Okay," Logan says. "Would you like to complete a puzzle with me later?" Patton forces a smile.

"I'm really not feeling up to that right now," Patton says. Logan's smile falls.

"I did not say now, though. I said-" Logan starts. Patton cuts him off.

"Logan, I don't want to! Just go away!" Patton says harshly. Logan flinches back, looking away before nodding.

"Okay." He says, almost silently. He goes back upstairs quickly. Patton turns back to Deceit.

"What was that?!" Patton shouts. Deceit stares, face darkening.

"Not me. I gave you back your ability to lie the moment Logan made his arrival known." Deceit says, calm but cold as ice. Patton's eyes widen.

"So you mean to tell me..." Patton trails off. Deceit nods.

"I didn't ruin your relationship with Logan. You did."

And with that, Deceit disappears.

~•~•~

Deceit hears a few days later that Patton and Logan broke up and, two days later, Patton got with Roman.

He hears that Logan was absolutely heartbroken over it and hasn't come out of his room since.

And mostly, he hears that nobody really cares.
