"Wow, it's a lot different when you're the one singing."
Zoe exhaled deeply while waiting for the video to load onto a disc. The girls were all exhausted, as was Jason. But, luckily they at least had the chance to eat dinner while they were waiting. She didn't have the energy to change out of her burnt-orange flowing sundress decorated in plum flowers. The purple color matched her faded lipstick, black-brown spiral curls forming a curtain around her bare shoulders.
"Zoe, it's finished!" Snapping her head up, Zoe waltzed over to Jade and took the CD from her hands. "Now, let's go home and show everyone." Jason and the rest of the girls had left a short time ago, the boy needing to catch a flight. The girls simply wanted to get back to their rented house and crash. "You did a really amazing job with this one, Zoe. Truly," Jade climbed in the back of their uber beside her friend, leaning on one another the whole time.
"Gracias," She yawned, paying their driver right before they arrived. "I just wrote what I felt," Zoe all but fell out of the car, Jade following suit. Dragging themselves up the driveway and inside of their house seemed to take every bit of energy they had. Although they got an instant reboot the second they saw their boyfriends. "Hola, losers."
Joel came over to greet his girlfriend, wrapping her in his embrace. Christopher stared at Zoe in awe, her tanned skin glowing against her dress. "Wow, uh, done already?" He stuttered, scratching the back of his neck. Zoe brandished the circle in her hand, strutting to the DVD player and popping it in. Richard flipped the lights off, everyone taking their seats in the living room. She flopped down beside Christopher, his lips whispering in her ear. "You look absolutely stunning,"
Zoe smiled tiredly, leaning into his side. The video slowly started in with Jesy in front of a bridge, singing angelically. Slowly the camera panned to Zoe, her dress blowing back in the night breeze. "I wish that we could be like that, why can't it be like that? Cause I'm yours," Her voice echoed through the speakers, shocking each and every one of them apart from Zoe and Jade. "We keep behind closed doors, every time I see you I die a little more."
Christopher inhaled sharply, listening intensely to every word she sang. "Stolen moments that we steal as the curtain falls, it'll never be enough." Zoe chewed on the inside of her cheek, noting Christopher's change in demeanor. His hands curled into a fist, leaning forward so he was on the edge of the couch. She could feel his gaze boring into the side of her head as Jason started singing, trying to process. "Why can't I say that I'm in love? I wanna shout it from the rooftops," Zoe felt Christopher shift away from her, eyes closing with the realization that she might've screwed up.
"Why can't we be like that? Wish we could be like that,"
As the screen faded to black and the credits started rolling, nobody said a word. When her name popped up under 'written by' a collective gasp was shared throughout the room. "Zoe, you wrote that?" Erick turned to his best friend with a pitiful gaze, the girl managing to clear her eyes of tears before everyone looked her way. "Wow," Edith shared his facial expression, the room erupting into applause.
"That was beautiful, pequeña." Zabdiel got up to hug his sister, her body frozen still. "Where did you find the inspiration for it?" Christopher stayed silent, eyes locking with Richard's for a short moment. Richard gave him a forced smile, jerking his head with the indication for Christopher to go upstairs. Zoe watched him go, staying silent until he reached the top step.
"Experience," She smiled sadly, pecking her brother on the cheek. "I'm really glad that you all enjoyed it. But, I'm exhausted." Zoe bid everyone goodnight, hurrying up to her bedroom. She paused just outside of the door, inhaling a deep breath before entering. Christopher was waiting on the edge of her bed when she entered, locking the door behind her. For several painful moments, nobody said a word. Then, she finally opened her mouth. "I'm sorry, I didn't know how to say it-"
Christopher's mouth covered hers before she could finish her sentence, hands gripping her sides. Zoe automatically kissed back, but it was over too soon for her liking. "Let's tell him," He rested his forehead on hers, inhaling the scent of roses. "We can tell him as soon as you want. Hell, we can go downstairs and tell him now if you wanted." She could taste salty tears rolling down her cheeks, his thumb carefully brushing them away.
"How about right after the tour finishes? That gives us four months to plan," Zoe offered, knowing there was a chance they might need to find their own place. She had plenty of money for a house and so did he. But, they would still have to look for one. Four months seemed like a long time to wait for most people, but the tour would make everything go by a hell of a lot quicker. "By then we can have everything in order," Christopher smiled against her skin, pulling her into a bone-crushing hug.
