Matthew was never one to beat around the bush. He simply said what was on his mind at all times, it was something she admired in him. No matter where they were, whether it was in public at their favorite club, or in private at his apartment like now. She was nursing a bottle of Moscato in her Star Wars pajamas when he finally spoke up at three AM seeing as nobody else was currently there.
"Come on, I know that look. You were the same way after David," It shocked her when she didn't flinch over the use of her ex's name, something she used to do. "I'm going to assume it was that guy named Christopher." Zoe choked on her wine, Matthew smiling victoriously. "That's what I thought. Anybody could see the way you looked at one another when you FaceTimed,"
Zoe cursed under her breath, running a hand through her hair. "Yeah, it was him. We kissed, I saw him flirting with another girl, we stopped talking, he slept with another girl. So after we argued again I booked a cheap flight here," She explained it one long gush of air, standing up as soon as she felt saltwater gather in her eyes. Walking over to the kitchen counter, her nails dug into the soft skin of her palms.
"Zoe-Zoe, turn around." She did after a few seconds, Matthew standing behind her with his arms open. Zoe gasped shakily, all but running directly into his embrace. "That was a dick move," He rubbed her back, trying to think of what to say next. "I don't want you to be mad at what I'm going to say, so hear me out, okay?" Matthew led them over to the couch, Zoe warily raising her head.
