I woke up the next morning to daylight shining through the large window in my new room and the smell of coffee and bacon. I stretched my arms out wide and let out an over-the-top yawn before rolling out of the cozy confines of my warm bed. I lazily ran my fingers through my hair before opening my bedroom door and making my way out into the kitchen. I was quickly greeted by a certain tall, brown-haired boy setting a bag of takeout breakfast food and two drinks down on the counter.
"Perfect timing!" he exclaimed. "I was out at the gym and thought I'd stop and get some breakfast for us," he continued, placing a to-go container of breakfast scramble from our local diner and my go-to chai tea latte in front me.
"Well aren't you just the sweetest," I remarked. Our eyes locked in on each other for a brief moment before he gave me a shy smile and looked back down at the counter. I swear I could see his cheeks redden at my words, but then again it was probably just a post-workout flush.
"So, do you think you're gonna be able to get your room all finished today?" he questioned. I nodded my head in reply.
"Definitely, it shouldn't take too long...though I may need your help hanging a few pictures and putting up curtains," I said. He let out an overly dramatic sigh before throwing his hands up in the air in defeat.
"I guess if I have to..." he jokingly exclaimed. I giggled and shook my head at his playful reaction. We both ate our breakfast before going into my room to get everything unpacked and finished. I put together my old Ikea floor lamp and plugged it into the corner as Shawn finished hanging the curtains.
"Alright, Cabello – what's next?" he asked.
"That big picture frame in the corner," I said, pointing at the object in question, "I'd like that hung right above my bed," I explained. He nodded his head and made his way over to the picture. He examined it for a moment, a small smile creeping up onto his face.
"Is this you?" he asked.
"Yeah, my mom took that picture of me one day at the beach in Miami. It's always been one of my favorites," I responded, smiling at the memory of prancing through the ocean waves.
"Well I can see why! This is a great picture of you..." he smiled as he spoke, picking the picture up and carrying it over to where it'd be hung. He hung the photo as I made my bed and added a few knick-knacks to my nightstands, including a small wooden lamp and a potted plant. He chuckled at my choice of bedding.
"Yellow really is your favorite color, isn't it?" he quipped.
"It's just such a happy color!" I explained as he chuckled. I placed one last hot pink throw pillow on my bed before stepping back and looking around my room. "I think that's it!" I exclaimed. Shawn continued looking around, not fully convinced that my room was complete.
"No, no – it's definitely missing something..." he quietly said. Before I knew it he was swiftly walking out of my room. He returned just a few moments later with a frame in his hand. He grabbed a nail and his hammer and hung the frame right above one of my nightstands. My heart fluttered when I saw that it was the drawing Silas had given me.
"Now it's done," he stated. I looked around the room again before looking up at him, a wide smile plastered on my face.
"You're right, now it's perfect." I agreed. He looked down at me, his eyes locked on mine. There was something in his eyes that wasn't there before. I don't know exactly what it was, but as we stood there gazing at each other it felt like time had stopped, like the rest of the world didn't even exist – it was just us two in this moment together. I couldn't deny my rapidly growing feelings for this guy, and part of me wanted to believe that he was feeling it too. Part of me wanted to jump up and wrap my arms around his neck and kiss him right there – but the rational part of me knew I couldn't. I had literally just moved in, I couldn't let myself potentially fuck it up already.
"Thank you for your help," I said, looking down at my bare feet in an attempt to break the tension that was hanging in the air around us. He cleared his throat before fumbling over his response.
"Y-yeah, no for sure, it was no problem – I'm happy to help..." he said. I noticed his cheeks begin to redden again, just like they had done earlier that morning. Butterflies erupted in my heart and stomach at the thought that maybe I have the same effect on him that he has on me.
"Um, there's still a few things I need to pick up so I think I'm gonna get ready and then go shopping for a bit," I said nonchalantly.
"Sounds fun," Shawn responded as he started heading toward the door. "I don't really have any plans for today, so I'll probably just be here. Let me know if you need help with anything else," he said with a smile.
"I will," I responded.

There wasn't much that I needed to pick up, but it did feel awfully nice to be out and about. It felt like it had been a while since I had just gone out and spent some time in the city by myself, and honestly I was enjoying it more than I thought I would. By the time I got home for the day it was already dark outside. I grabbed my bags from the car and hit the button to lock it, turning to face the front of the house. My heart fluttered when I saw Shawn standing in the living room through the window, unfortunately that fluttering quickly stopped when I saw a certain tall blonde step in front of him, entangling her fingers in his hair and passionately pressing her lips against his.
