[Shawn's POV]
I woke up and looked over to see Camila still fast asleep next to me. I gently took the small arm that was draped over my torso and lifted it up, carefully placing it down on the bed and hoping she wouldn't wake up. I let out a sigh of relief when I was able to untangle myself from her grasp and sneak out of bed without disrupting her slumber. I grabbed my phone off the charger on the nightstand before walking over to the dresser and putting on a pair of gray sweatpants and a hoodie. I slipped out of the bedroom, quietly shutting the door so she wouldn't hear me leave.
I was lucky enough that her birthday this year fell on a Saturday, so we would have the whole day to celebrate however she wanted. I knew she wouldn't want any huge party or anything like that - but I was still determined to make her day as special as possible, even if it was just the two of us. I grabbed my wallet and put on my shoes before heading out to get in my car. My first stop was Target to get some fun birthday decor, including yellow balloons, yellow streamers, and a "Happy Birthday" banner (which yes, was also yellow). I also happened to see a Harry Potter pajama set, complete with matching fuzzy socks, so I got her those too - as well as a gift bag for the pajamas. Next stop was one of our local liquor stores to get a bottle of her favorite wine (which was a pain in the ass to find and was almost never in stock - luckily for me they had some today). After that, I stopped at 6 different florists around town. Yes - 6 of them. I'm pretty sure I ended up buying every sunflower in the city but I didn't care, she deserved it. I looked at the clock and knew Camila would be waking up soon, so I decided to make one final stop on the way home to pick up our favorite breakfast.
When I got home, I was relieved to see Camila was still fast asleep. I brought all of her goodies inside and began putting the decorations up. I hung the streamers all around the living room, kitchen & dining room. As I began filling the balloons, I was eternally grateful for deciding to pick up a helium tank instead of trusting my lungs to fill them up. With the amount of balloons I had bought, Camila would've woken up to her boyfriend passed out from lack of oxygen instead of a room full of yellow balloons if it weren't for this helium tank. After tying the last balloon, I shoved about 15 of them into a trash bag so that I could easily move them into the bedroom when I went to wake up Camila. I took the pajama set I had gotten her and put them in the gift bag - which surprise, was yellow - and had a drawing of a bumble bee on it saying "Happy Bee-Day". The final touch was covering the house with the sunflowers I had bought. I did a count as I was setting them out, and it ended up being about nine-dozen sunflowers. Overkill? Maybe - but I didn't care.
I carefully and quietly turned the doorknob to the bedroom, slowly opening it to see Camila was still knocked out. I untied the trash bag full of balloons, letting them float up to the ceiling and set one of the many bouquets down on her nightstand. I hung the "Happy Birthday" banner up above the headboard before going back out into the kitchen to retrieve our breakfast. She finally stirred awake as I sat down on the bed with our food. She blinked her eyes open and took a look around the room before bringing her attention back to me, flashing me a shy grin.
"Happy birthday!" I said with a cheeky smile as I attacked her face with kisses.
"You're too much," she laughed as she sat up in bed. "Thank you for all of this," she said timidly as I handed over her breakfast. "I don't think anyone's ever put this much effort into celebrating my birthday before," she spoke quietly. Her words stung my heart a little bit.
"Well, if you think this is over the top wait until you see the rest of the house," I said as I wiggled my eyebrows at her. She laughed and shook her head at me. We finished our breakfast in bed, and shortly thereafter found ourselves in the middle of a heated kiss. She pulled away breathlessly and our eyes locked on one another. I lovingly tucked a stray tendril of her hair behind her ear before leaning in and giving her one last peck on the tip of her nose.
"Come on! You need to open your present," I said excitedly. I wrapped one of my arms behind her back as the other one hooked under her knees, picking her up. She laughed as I carried her bridal-style out of the bedroom and into the main living area. The way her eyes lit up when she saw all of the decorations and sunflowers made my heart swell.
"Shawn, what the hell? You did all of this for me?" she asked with wide eyes as I put her down so we were both standing in the living room.
"Well who else would this be for?" I asked with a smirk. I picked up the gift bag from the coffee table and handed it to her; she let out a small chuckle when she saw the bag. "This isn't your real gift, this is just something that I saw when I was getting the balloons and streamers and I couldn't resist," I said as she opened the bag and pulled out the pajama set, her smile growing even wider.
"Well, if this isn't the 'real gift' I'm quite intrigued to know what the real gift is, because honestly these are incredible," she said with a chuckle. "...and a matching pair of fuzzy socks? You really know the way to a woman's heart, Mr. Mendes..." she joked. She walked up to me and wrapped her arms around my neck, pulling me in for a hug.
"Thank you for this, seriously. This is so special," she whispered into the crook of my neck as we embraced.
"I'm glad you're happy, but we're just getting started," I whispered back. She pulled away from the hug and gave me a look of disbelief. "You'll get your big birthday gift later tonight," I said. She raised her eyebrows at my words as a smirk spread across her face. "I didn't mean it like that...but I mean, yeah - that too," I explained as we both laughed. "Until then, what would you like to do? How would you like to spend your special day? Any requests?" I asked.
"I think as long as I get to spend it with you, my day will be plenty special," she answered with a content smile.
