By the time the sun has set, Maddy is finally ready to leave. I shouldn't be surprised that her 30 minute shower, 45 minute makeup routine, and a whole ass hour to do her hair was going to take the entire afternoon.
"Let's go! You're taking too damn long." I yell from the front door.
Maddy rushes out of her room, still applying a layer of mascara on her lashes.
"You're still not ready?" I ask and laugh.
"Perfection takes time. You'll learn one day!"
I roll my eyes with a giggle and open the door. I feel like that was a jab at how I dress myself.
"So, what are we doing about the driving situation?" I ask and step outside.
Maddy pulls the door shut behind her and grins. "In a few hours, we won't be able to drive. I got us covered."
A car pulls up in front of us just as the words leave her mouth. This is the best timing I've ever witnessed and I'm already impressed. The driver rolls the window down and whistles.
"Damn! You two look hot."
Maybe it's too soon to give this man any credit. Maddy sticks her tongue out at him and climbs in the back seat. I follow reluctantly behind her.
"Off to Thrive then?" He asks and peeks into the rearview mirror.
Our eyes lock and I yank the top of my dress up slightly, careful enough to not show anything to this guy. Not that I think he would be any more creepy than strangers at night club.
"Yes! Thank you, Hunter." Maddy says as she reaches forward and caresses his shoulder.
I think I might vomit. I also really hope she's paying for this ride with cash.
The BMW speeds out of the parking lot and heads into the city. I stare anxiously out of the window the entire time. I'll never not be amazed by how beautiful the buildings and skyscrapers look at night. You can see them for miles depending on where you're at. The only suckfest happening is the horrific traffic we get stuck in on the way there.
"Woah, look at all those people!" Maddy yells and points out her window.
I lean over her lap to get a better look. Down the sidewalk stands at least fifty or so people on the sidelines of the street. Somehow I get an inkling that makes me realize it's leading to the place we're trying to get to.
Hunter drops us off right next to the door. I don't really understand the point if we're going to have to walk to the back of the line anyway, but I follow Maddy out without harassing her with any more questions.
"I'll call you around 1ish. Sounds good?" She asks him.
He nods and drives off. I cross my arms, keeping a tight grip on my clutch. I feel the majority of the line's eyes on us, but there's no way in hell I'm going to look. I could just be overreacting and there's no one looking at us at all.
"We should head to the back then?" I ask.
Maddy giggles and shakes her head.
"No, sweetheart. We definitely do not."
Sweetheart?
She grabs a hold of my wrist and walks me up to the door where the start of the line begins. A tall, heavy built tan guy wearing a sleeveless V-neck and leather jeans glares down at us. I feel my pulse quickening and stay hidden behind Maddy..
"Maddy Hennith. Should be on top." She says to him.
He glances down at his clipboard, nodding while removing the velvet rope and moving off to the side to let us by. How the hell did she get her name on the list? How did she get it on the top?
