He cares!

Chapter 11: He cares!

I had been leaning against the gate for a full five minutes when Kate spoke up

“Hey, where’s Gina? She was only a couple of paces behind me…” I gasped.

No… please don’t let her be doing what I think she’s doing! I’ll kill her if she is! OMG! That girl! I stepped away from the gate and casually opened it and looked out, and sure enough Gina was sitting on the metal fence fluttering her eyelashes at Nico! Oh no she isn’t! just when I finally feel happy enough to get out there… what the hell’s her problem!? I’m starting to regret the day I thought that she may be a different person inside and insisted mother gave her a chance!  I stormed up to her and growled

“Ausra’s calling you” in Lithuanian, but judging by the look on Nico’s face he must’ve understood something was up and took a step back.

I took a moment to look at him and flash him a distressed smile and get back to growl at Gina, but I didn’t need to. Kate, who had followed me outside snapped for me

“Get inside! Now! What the hell’s wrong with you…?” She began in Lithuanian but I said

“Just go in, then give her the lecture later” in English! Whoops! Nico understood exactly what I said… yikes!

Gina jumped off the fence, throwing me a dirty look at the same time and walking slowly away towards the gate. When her hand was on the handle, she turned back and smiled at Nico, but Kate grabbed her arm and pushed her inside before she got to say anything. I sighed, then kicked the fence, not managing to hide my frustration. I swear I’m gonna kill her! What the hell?! Urgh!  I turned and realise that Nico was staring at me, with what I think is a tiny smile spread across his face

“Oh my gosh, I’m sorry you had to see that…” I started to murmur and turned my back on him and started to walk away.

He stopped me by touching my arm gently and I felt a shockwave go through my whole body and was suddenly paralyzed. I turned slowly and met his gaze full on

“What was that all about?” he asked gently, his face was only centimetres away, and I felt butterflies in my stomach.

All of my anger faded away and I wanted to answer him, tell him all of my worries but I just couldn’t find the right words

“Nothing. Just girl stuff” I forced a tight smile and turned and walked into my aunt’s garden.

So much for getting out of the friends zone… I sighed. Not an angry sigh, but a very tired and frustrated one. How many times would Gina do this to me? Or is she just trying to push me over my limits and make me spill and clog her one on the head? Because if she is, I can guarantee you now that if I hit her, she won’t get up for a long, long time.

I suddenly didn’t have the power to fight or shout at her, I felt so tired. Tired of her bullshit and lies! I walked into the house and then turned around and walked straight back out again and sat on the sofa they’ve placed outside, which was burning hot. I lay down and tried to relax. Impossible. All these thoughts started rushing through my head: what was she thinking? Why is she doing this to me? Hasn’t she got enough guys on her tail already? What’s Nico thinking of me right now? He probably thinks I’m some phsyco… that’s my chances over…

Kate came outside after about 10 minutes and sat down next to me. I sighed. She sighed. We both sighed together, and then started laughing. Wow, that’s how great it is to have a cousin who understands exactly how you feel. She turned a totally crappy situation into something we can laugh about. I love her.

“I guess that’s it.” I said, very disappointed

“it doesn’t have to be… I mean, you can still get him” yet again her effort was much appreciated

“He must think I’m some sort of weirdo, and even if I do try again, Gina will probably suck it up again- that reminds me, where is she?” I suddenly became angry again.

I couldn’t help it! I mean, seriously, what would you do if your own flesh and blood done this sort of thing to you? And the worst thing is, is that what did I do to her to make her do this to me?

“Calm down. I talked to her. She aint gonna be coming out for a while” Kate smirked at herself

“thanks.” I was truly grateful because if I’d got my hands on Gina’s neck I could bet a thousand pounds that by the time I let go she’s be on the floor, blue in the face. What with the way I’m feeling now, I couldn’t imagine anything less!

“Can we go out of here? I think I’m going to melt onto the sofa!” I giggled.

“Yeah, you do look kind of red… lucky you, you just turn brown straight away!” I smiled. Yup, lucky me. Lucky, lucky me.

I got up and fixed my now crumpled dress up a bit and started to head for the gate, where I froze in a moment of hesitation

“Nico’s probably out there.” I whispered

“So?” Kate said and opened the gate wide enough so I couldn’t hide away and sure enough, Nico’s soft brown eyes were looking straight into mine. I consciously tugged at my plait and smirked at him

“Let’s go”

Kate linked arms with me and we started to walk across the grass, taking a slight shortcut and kind of avoiding Nico’s eye. Kate quickly started up a conversation, playing it safe

“So, what d’you wanna do when we get home?” I shrugged

“Dunno, let all the guys drool over ‘lil miss gorgeous!” I made a stupid posh voice

“More importantly what will I do to her?!” I asked myself, not really expecting Kate to answer, but she did

“Revenge. Definitely has to happen now…” I laughed.

“Hah! Revenge. Like that’s gonna stop that little troll from flirting with every guy she comes in contact with” We walked up to a turn in the bushes that I’d never noticed before, there was a big tree right next to it and bushes on each side.

I motioned for Kate to sit down on the grass with me, while trying not to interrupt her talking “True… But seriously? I felt like slapping her up when I saw her batting her goo-goo eyes at Nico!”

“You aint the only one, babe. You aint the only one” I muttered

I opened my mouth to say something else when I stopped straight in my tracks. My mouth hung open in surprise. Nico was making his way through the grass towards us

“Quick! Get up… hide!” I whisper-yelled to Kate, but she put a firm grip on my arm and kept me sitting still.

Man, I feel so sorry for my arm. I felt so weird and nervous that all I wanted was to run and hide, but I knew that was impossible so I smiled and looked directly in Nico’s direction.

“Hey?” I said when he was in hearing shot.

I didn’t mean for it to sound like such a question, but that’s the way it came out, suggesting that I was surprised to see him.

“Hey! You alright? I saw you walk off and you looked kind of sad and I thought…”

awww! He cares! He truly cares! Take that Gina! Mwahaha! Keep it cool…

“Uh, yeah. Thanks, I’m fine. Just pissed off” I gave him my best and brightest smile.

He smiled back “You coming?” He asked “Yeah. Gives us a lift” I said and he sauntered over to me and held my hands and picked me up. Wow, he was strong… He really was the perfect guy… or so I think…
