The girls sat outside for an hour before Lauren stood up stretching her arms and back. "Alright Kay, lets go. We've got to get back inside."
"But the air feels so nice out here." She pouted not wanting to be brought back into the captivity of the walls.
"Trust me you'll be out soon enough. Now come on." She waved her over as Lauren got the door for them to head back into the facility. Kaila dragged her feet dreading the day she was passed over to some creep who bought her.
"Where are we going now?" Kaila asked keeping a close distant to Lauren, not wanting to be too far away and be considered a rogue again.
"You just love asking questions. Nothing has changed about you Kay. You'll find out soon enough." Lauren chuckled and shook her head with a smile as they traveled through the labyrinth.
Finally getting back to her small office Kaila stepped in as Lauren shut the door behind her. Only now Kaila realized the large smile spread from ear to ear on her face. "Why are you so happy?"
"And there's another one." She laughed as she sat in her chair. "I'm just having a good day. Everything's going smoothly, there hasn't been any hiccups anywhere, and it's already..." she dragged out while checking her phone for the time, "three o'clock." Throwing her hands up in joy Lauren spun around in her wobbly plastic chair celebrating quietly.
Under her breathe when her back was turned to Kaila she whispered out, "only five more hours!"
The taller girl spun back around looking at Kaila seeing a look of pure confusion that caused her to laugh more. "Lighten up Kaila. There's nothing to worry about." She stood.
"Nothing to worry about?!" Kaila stumbled backwards when Lauren stood catching the small girl off guard. "What about the auction tomorrow? Or whatever's going on tonight? Or what about what's going to happen to Lain?! I overheard them talking about wanting to put her through the chambers! She doesn't deserve to be put through that! She's done nothing wrong!" She panicked rushing with her words before looking at Lauren with an idea. "Can you stop that from happening?" She rushed over putting her hands on Lauren's shoulders, shaking her slightly.
But the gesture only made Lauren laugh harder. "Kaila I'm serious calm down. Don't worry about any of those alright. You said you would trust me, and now I need you to follow through with that and trust me. I promise you I know what I'm doing."
"Then why are we just sitting here doing nothing while there's so much we could be doing to get Lain out of that place!"
"Because," Lauren's smile disappeared as she moved Kaila's hands off of her. Looking the nervous girl in the eyes, Lauren held her chin up to look her closely in the face. "Lain's been moved. Alright. There isn't any more I can do for her."
"W-what?" Kaila felt like a knife was just stabbed through her heart as the words trembled out of her. "Is...is she coming back?" Kaila tried holding it together but she felt her emotions getting the best of her.
When Lauren shook her head tears were springing into action as she fell down onto the floor. She was sobbing within a few seconds breathing heavily and hiccuping along with it. "W-where...d-did...s-she...g-go?"
"I can't say Kaila I'm sorry." Lauren crouched down rubbing Kaila's shoulder reassuringly. But Kaila just swiped her hand off of her and backed up until her back hit the wall wanting nothing but Lain back.
"Y-you...s-said...I-I...c-could...t-trust...y-you?!" She screamed through her hysterics.
"You can trust me Kay!"
"N-no...I-I...c-can't!...Y-you l-let her get...get t-taken...a-away and-and...n-now...I won't ever get to see her again!" She sobbed through the entire thing crying ten times harder when she finished her thought.
Her whole world was shattering beneath her. After every attempt she made to get Lain back in the end nothing worked, she felt worthless. All her hard work and determination to rescue Lain was gone. Everything she had done up to this point was useless. There was no point to anything anymore. Her dreams and wishes were being crushed.
"I'll uh," Lauren cleared her voice, "I'll just give you your space." She walked out of the room leaving Kaila to her own battle.
An endless stream of tears, screams, and cries followed after Lauren left. The little girl was left heart broken on the floor knowing Lain wasn't coming back. The unknown worried her the most. The uncertainty of where she went, what happened to her, and what she had went through all ached Kaila's big heart.
Thinking of the worst possible scenarios she could have gone through, Kaila played those paths in her mind crying even harder as she passed through each of them.
The amount of stress and pain she felt was indescribable. The pain from the chambers gas was preferred over this. At least then she knew the pain was only temporary, this feeling of pain was one that she knew would carry on with her for years.
After half an hour of hard crying, Kaila fell asleep on the floor. Her small body couldn't handle all that stress. But little did she know Lauren was standing outside the entire time listening to the heartbreaking cries and pleads for Lain to come back. Finally when all the noise inside stopped, she cracked open the door and peaked in seeing the scene.
Scratching the back of her head as she sighed out, she draped the blanket over Kaila's body letting her rest. As she went back to the door before she stepped out, Lauren took one final look at Kaila shaking her head and grinning. "If only you knew."
Leaving the room Lauren locked the door behind her seeing she still had four and a half hours to kill before it was time for action. Using this time wisely she made her final phone calls making sure everything was going to be perfect for when the time came. Everything was falling into her hands.
Stepping out to the facility, Lauren walked over to the Hounds office located near the chamber center. Inside she passed by hundreds of guards all either half way or completely out of uniform as they were relaxing. But the second she passed them, each of them tensed up surprised by her presence to begin with. Stopping by a group of them she looked at them with a blank face, "where's the one in charge?"
They all simultaneously pointed in the direction of an office at the end of the building. Taking off in that direction she took a breathe and knocked on the door ready to finish tying up the final lose knots to her scheme.
