My ears perked up when I heard the mumbling of someone in the kitchen, my eyebrows furrowed at the sound and I didn't know that Anne had company. Maybe we could reschedule for when we weren't such a nuisance, carefully placing Colin on the ground along with some of his toys I went to go talk with Anne. Only I stopped in my tracks when I saw him standing there.

"Mom what is she doing here", Harry asked frantically.

"I invited her to dinner", Anne scolded. "Anne if this is a bad time, we could come back another time", I tried to reason with her.

"No dear its not, Harry happened to be here and he will be on his best behavior as we enjoy dinner.

"Right", she snapped elbowing him in the ribs.

"Yes ma'am", he answered.

"Good, now dinners ready. Let eat", she cheered heading to the dinning room.

Damn, guess this wasn't going to be relaxing after all.

The sounds of cutlery hitting dishes was the only sound that could be heard in the small dinning room. Occasionally Colin would make noise that would break us out of our quiet spell but beyond that nothing. Harry kept looking up and smiling at me but I kept my eyes diverted down. All I could think about was the girls he had been pictured with and what he had done with them. Anne tried to make conversation but of course that fell flat because non of us were willing to put our feelings aside and act like adults. I smiles at Colin and wiped his chin as he stuck out his cute chubby hand that had masked potatoes all over it. I gave his hand a quick lick and kissed it causing him to giggle hysterically.

"I can't believe he's going to be almost a year", Anne cooed.

"Don't remind me, I hate the thought of him growing up", I pouted at my baby boy wishing he would stay this young forever.

"How old is he now", I heard Harry ask.

"Almost five months", I sighed keeping my eyes on the miracle I've grown to love with my entire life.

"I just wish your parents can see him", Anne said to me sadly.

"Where are they", Harry asked.

"So Anne I heard your hospital just got granted a huge loan to update the hospital", I quickly diverted the focus off of me.

"Oh yes everyone is so excited to see how the hospital is going to expand", Anne clapped and continued on with her talk.

I breathed a sigh of relief, I hated when we talked about my past. Actually there was nothing to talk about, it was my past for a reason and I wasn't about to let it all come flying back. I did everything I could to escape my past but it seemed like the road ahead wasn't any prettier and was filled with all this dangerous obstacles I was sure at times I could handle.

"Everyone done", Anne asked bringing me out of thought.

"Here let me help", I offered getting up.

"No I....", Anne tried to protest.

"Honestly Anne, it's ok. You worked a long shift and came home to slave away over a hot stove for me and Colin. It's the least I can do", I poured.

"I'll clean Colin up", she smiled.

I wore a triumphant smile as I walked into the kitchen.
