It was work as usual after the weekend ended, Mr Reed was back at work once again and I was his dutiful assistant that had way too much time on her hands."Lyn!" I stood up excitedly as she came over to my desk, "hi Addy, is Ezra in his office?" I nodded "he's on an important call, he asked me not to disturb him." She huffed, putting her documents on my desk.
"Hey, Lyn" she turned back to look at me, "do you wanna grab some lunch together? I'll pay." Lyn smiled "can't turn that down, there's a nice cafe close to hear, want to go now?"
We both walked over to the cafe and waited to be served, "hey, Lyn, why did you want to see Mr Reed?" I struck up a conversation,
"oh it was nothing too important, just a future client that I thought he would want to know about."I leaned in closer "whose the client? You seem really happy that you're dealing with them." Lyn burst out in joy, "it's my favourite artist Freddy Vale!" I was confused, trying to work out who it was, "are they a popular artist?" Lyn looked at me awestruck.
"He's a singer, I guess you wouldn't know about him as he's only recently become famous. But I've been a huge fan of him since his first album and Ezra moves his main office over to LA to work with celebrities to increase our range. His manager wants us to work on some concept art for his next album." She exclaimed excitedly.
"Is he really hot" I asked, trying to know the background of her motivation, "of course, but it's more than that, he's a great songwriter and his songs are my taste. His first album is my favourite though. It was about his first love and it was just the sweetest - he's single though."
I smiled at her wholesome expression "okay to thank you for being so welcoming to me at work, I'll make sure that mr Reed accepts him as a client!" Lyn smiled bursting with joy, "thank you so much Addy, but you don't have to be so thankful towards me, we've known each other for so long of course I would be nice to you."
I felt my mood deflating "oh right, of course we know each other, how did we meet? Or I guess become friends." I asked.
Lyn smiled again, "I was one of Ezra's first employee, so when we were accepting interns I helped with the selection process. I really wanted you to be selected as we graduated from the same school, but Ezra went through a couple other employees before he interviewed you."
"So did we become friends from work?" I inquired, Lyn shook her head, "no, we became friends a couple months later. I was dating this guy for a while and didn't realise he was married until his wife began to harass me. Of course I broke up with him instantly, but she kept waiting outside my work to humiliate me. That ended when you stuck up for me and began arguing with her, you always seemed so timid but you had become incredibly strong in that moment. We became friends after that."
"That part seems like the most like me out of all of the stories I've heard of me before." Lyn looked at me weirdly, "wait you're normally like that?" She asked.
I nodded my head, "my younger sister often got bullied at school, so I got in a lot of fights back then." Lyn looked relieved that I wasn't just a perpetual bully, "I never knew that you had a sister?"
I stared at the ground, I wonder how lily is doing? I've been scared to ask my parents about her, they just said that she's fine and studying abroad. "We're not that close." I choked on my words as I told her that.
She must really hate me to not even come to the hospital when I got into a car accident, I guess my pain doesn't come close to what she has suffered over the years. I don't want me reaching out to her now to disturb her ordinary life and bring back skeletons in the closet.
Maybe it was better for her for me to forget her..
"We should get back soon, lunch is almost over" I told Lyn as I began to snap out of my trance.
