We then reached the building where the Krazy Kanoe was located. As we reached the stairs, taking us underneath the building, Sousa spoke up. "Can't believe this hideout is still running."
"Did you ever stop by back in the day?" Phil questioned.
"Once or twice. Only the top brass knew about it. Good place to lie low." Sousa explained.
"Oh yeah? Wish I could've seen it back then. I heard Dooley had a reserved booth with one of those plaque things next to it-" Phil ranted on, revealing his fanboy side again.
"Okay dad, let's not keep Enoch waiting any longer. He's been chilling for four decades." Daisy stated, cutting him off.
"Yeah, besides your fanboy is showing again." I teased.
Phil gave me a sheepish smile. "I'm sorry, I can't help it..."
With that, we walked down a flight of stairs and towards the door. Phil slid the handle on the door, revealing a small keypad. Once he entered the password, the door opened. We walked in to find the bar completely different and filled with many people, baffling us. The tables had interesting looking lava lamps and old looking radios. Men and women were drinking, talking, and laughing, and it appeared as though they were celebrating.
"So much for lying low." Sousa mentioned.
"I wonder what this is all about." Phil commented.
"Maybe Enoch will know what's going on." I suggested.
I really hope Enoch knows what's happening...With that, we split up. Daisy sat in a booth, while May asked around at the bar. Meanwhile Sousa, Phil, and I sat at a table by the bar. I glanced over at who the bartender, who I was bummed out wasn't Enoch. Where was he? I glanced over at the lava lamps, rather intrigued.
"Those are interesting looks lanterns." Sousa commented, referring to the lava lamps.
"They're lava lamps." I explained. "And they look different from the ones back in my home galaxy."
"You don't think those lamps are really filled with lava, do you?" Phil questioned.
"Well...yeah. Back home the Spanthaer lava lamps are made of real lava." I informed them.
Both Sousa and Phil looked completely taken back by my words. I shrugged. "What? Why call them lava lamps if they don't actually contain lava in them?"
"She's got a point." Sousa pointed out before changing the subject. "Good to know S.H.I.E.L.D. is going strong. Just wish I knew what they were celebrating."
I scanned the place, seeing a familiar face...General Rick Stoner. I remember seeing his hologram at the Lighthouse when the whole team returned from the future. Several people were surrounding him, talking and laughing.
"Whatever it is, it seems to be centered on him." I observed.
Sousa followed my gaze and his eyes widened. "No, is that...little Ricky?"
"If by little Ricky you mean General Rick Stoner, then yes. He's top brass at S.H.I.E.L.D." Phil mentioned.
I raised an eyebrow. "You knew him?"
Sousa nodded. "Yeah. I remember when he was an enlistee. Poor kid couldn't tell a mag from a clip."
At that moment, Stoner spoke up, gaining everyone's attention. "Ladies and gentlemen, I would like to thank all of you for being here today. I know you are all excited to kick off S.H.I.E.L.D.'s next phase in global security. So please welcome the man responsible, my boss and friend, Wilfred Malick."
