Chapter 16: Written Exam Pass or Fail!

3rd POV

A proctor and a full team of people had appeared before the Chunin Exam applicants. The first part, the written exam, had begun.

???: It's time to begin. Sorry to keep you waiting. I'm Ibiki Morino, your proctor. And from this point on, I am your worst enemy. (points to Hidden Sound) First, candidates from the Village Hidden in the Sound, knock it off. Who allowed you to fight? Do you wish to be disqualified?

Sound Member 1: Sorry about that. This is our first time so we are a little bit jumpy...sir.

Ibiki: (scoffs) I'll only say this once, so you better listen. There will be no attacking the other candidates. You may not attack each other without the permission of your proctor, understood? Even the use of fatal force is strictly prohibited. (gives off a deathly stare) Anyone who thinks they can mess with me will immediately be disqualified.

Sound Member 2: Hmph. No fatal force? That's no fun at all.

Hidden Leaf staff: (chuckles)

Ibiki: If we are ready, we shall proceed with the first stage of the Chunin Exam. Hand over your paperwork. You will receive a number in return. This number will determine seat you will be at. We shall start with the written exam when you are all seated.

Naruto: (dumbfounded) The what? Did he say..."written?" (sees a stack of papers) Huh!? Not a written test!

Y/N: (thoughts) We're at a disadvantage. Naruto is a complete idiot when it comes to paper exams.

Y/N POV

We all sit in silence as we were handed our papers and pencils and such. We weren't given any further instruction to turn over our papers so we did nothing. I look over to see Naruto, panicking in his seat. Well we are kinda spaced apart. The only one near me is Sakura, who is about 4 seats to my left. Sasuke is about 5 or 6 seats in front of me.

Ibiki: (taps chalkboard) Everyone, eyes up here. There are a few rules that everyone needs to be aware of and I won't ask any questions. You better pay attention the first time around.

Y/N: (thoughts) No questions are to be asked?

Ibiki: (writes on chalkboard) The first rule is this. The written exam is conducted on a point reduction system. On the contrary, some of you may be used to test with the perfect score of being 10 points. One point shall be deducted from each answer you get wrong. So if you miss 3 your final score will be 7. Second rule, teams will pass or fail based on the total scores of all the members.

Y/N: (thoughts) Dammit. Should one of us get a low score, there is the possibility of failing. And with Naruto being bad at written exams, our chances if failing has increased.

Sakura: Wait a second! You're saying that we all get scored based as a team!?

Ibiki: Silence! I have my reasons for this so shut up and listen. Rule three, the sentinels you all see in the room are watching you carefully for any signs of cheating. For every incident they spot you, they will subtract two points from the culprit's score.

Sakura and a few people: Huh?

Ibiki: You have been warned. Their eyes are sharp. If they catch you five times, you will be dismissed before your test shall be scored.

Y/N: (thoughts) I see. They are testing our skills of intel gathering. I require moving around and using the shadows in order to find my intel. A summon would also be helpful right now.

Ibiki: If anyone is foolish enough to be caught cheating by the sentinels doesn't deserve to be here.

Sentinel 1: I've got my eye on you guys.
