Chapter 37: Honoring the Fallen

Y/N POV

As I travel to where Sasuke and the others were, heavy rain suddenly drops on me. It clears in a second and I notice that the skies were clear. Did it come from the massive toad earlier? Now that I think about it, the toad and the giant tanuki is gone as well. I make my over there and I find Sakura in a Sand hand. It was slowly crumbling away and she falls. I ran and caught her before she hit the ground. Her breathing was very shallow. I look around and I see the wreckage that had occurred. A great battle was fought here is what I can infer. I look to see Sasuke over on one of the branches trying to get up.

I prop Sakura onto my back and I make my way to him.

Y/N: Sasuke, you alright?

Sasuke: Yeah...what about Sakura?

Y/N: She's fine. Just knocked out cold. Where's Naruto?

Sasuke: Over in the forest deeper. He was fighting Gaara.

Y/N: I see.

Sasuke: Can you take her back to the village? I'll get the loser.

Y/N: (nods) Alright. I'll see you there.

I leap off the branch and land an another one as I make my way back to Konoha. I can feel and hear Sakura stirring and she awakens.

Sakura: W-Where am I?

Y/N: Seems like my sleeping beauty is awake now.

Sakura: Y/N...?

Y/N: Yeah. It's me. I'm taking you back to the village. Sasuke went to get Naruto.

Sakura: If you're here...did you?

Y/N: I defeated him but, I wasn't able to kill him. That's not important right now. You're my top priority right now. Just get some rest...

Sakura: ...Thank you.

Y/N: (holds back tears and whispers quietly) I'm sorry...

Sakura: What did you say?

Y/N: I'm sorry.

Sakura: For what?

Y/N: I couldn't protect you.

Sakura: You came for me. I knew you would come. That's more than enough.

Y/N: I should have been there for you. I let my own personal goals get the better of me and let my vengeance cloud my judgement. You were supposed to come first---

Sakura: Don't say things like that. I am grateful that I was in your thoughts but, you did nothing wrong. (pecks cheek) Now shut up and take us home, darling.

Y/N: (small smile) Of course honey.

It took us a few minutes to get back home. When we arrived, things weren't looking so good. We were able to defend the home from the invasion but, what was the cost? We lost someone. A father figure. A leader. Someone who cared for us all. The Third Hokage was reported dead along with a few shinobi and civilians. A funeral was to be held tomorrow.

Everyone was let out of the safety shelters that were on the Hokage's rock faces so I decided to take Sakura home. She was asleep the whole entire time while she was on my back. I knocked on the doorway and an older looking man opens the door. Must be her father.

Sakura's father: Hello? Who are you? (notices Sakura on my back) Are you her boyfriend?

Y/N: Yes sir. Y/N Hasashi.

Sakura's father: Hasashi? I don't remember Hanzo having another child.

Y/N: Y-You knew my father?
