A black void was all that could be seen.

A fire in the middle, logs and some rocks around it as Y/N sat on one of them.

???: Now...things didn't go as plan, did they?

Turning his head to the voice, he sees his partner, the demon he made a blood pact with.

Y/N: What is this place?

Niichirin: Hmm...let's just say, the equilibrium between life and death.

Y/N: The equilibrium...?

Niichirin: You did indeed die, but you sit on the crossroad here. You see, because of me, you can still come back, not unless you want to permanently rest.

Y/N: (chuckles slightly) With the things I've done in the past, the things I did growing up, I don't deserve to come back.

Niichirin: I looked through your memories. You did what you had to do to survive.

Y/N: Doesn't change the fact that I murdered people. Hell, someone tried killing me when I was a lot younger when I was just stealing an apple off one of the stands. I gouged his eyes out with a glass shard I picked up from my burned down home.

Niichirin: So? What are you going to do?

Y/N gets up returning his attention back to the flames in front of him.

He chuckles and smiles as he sees the memories he's made the last sixteen years when he was still alive.

Him with his sisters, training with his father, becoming Chujin, the Chunin Exams, the night he confessed to her, his flower. They shared their first kiss that night as well.

The memory pauses on her face, moving his hand as goes to touch it, but his hand moves through it like mist. He frowns slightly as Y/N begins to cry.

Y/N: I don't deserve her...she deserves someone better. I'm just a murderer, a killer. Nothing more. I'm no one.

Niichirin: ...So your answer is?

Y/N: I don't want to head there yet. (looks to Niichirin) I want to thank my proper partner, no...my friend.

Niichirin was taken aback, her bright red orbs as she stared at the young teen with wide-eyes. It wasn't until she started to giggle, making Y/N confused.

Niichirin wipes her tears of joy away, gazing at the red-eyed teen and the two sit near each other.

Niichirin: So, how do you want to spend the rest of your time...friend?

Y/N: Well...

Currently...

The different Pains were still going around Konoha, searching and killing anyone who didn't know the whereabouts of Naruto Uzumaki.

In the Leaf hospital, some of the former members of the Elite Seven were mourning the loss of their Grandmaster, particularly Poney, blaming herself for breaking a promise she intended to keep. Something she never wanted to break. Tsukushi was still with the younger recruits, taking care of them so she never got the news. Green however, was studying the young Grandmaster's body.

Y/N's body wasn't severely damaged, the yellow tunic of stained with blood. The only injury he could see was the small hole in Y/N's chest, where something entered to pierce his heart.

Upon putting his hand on Y/N's lifeless one, he noticed that Y/N's body was still warm.

Green: (thoughts) It's still...warm...? How...

He then remembered when Niichirin would manifest in front of them, how Y/N's scars would heal rather quickly as Niichirin was behind it.

Concluding that Y/N's life is actually hanging by a thread. He was just confused as to why Y/N hasn't returned yet, or why his injuries were taking so long to heal.
