Y/N POV

We regrouped with everyone. Sakura had come to check up everyone's injuries. When she came to me...

Sakura: You what!?

Y/N: (sigh) Can you not yell?

Sakura: How can I!? You said you wouldn't get hurt and here you are, injured and you have two fractured arms!? How am I not supposed to yell!?

Y/N: Can you calm down for once?

Sakura: I am calm!

Y/N: (deadpan) No you're not. 

Sakura huffs and turns around, crossing her arms. I sigh and hug her from behind. She grabs my arms, carefully making sure she doesn't hurt my arms. I kiss her neck and go to her ear.

Y/N: (whisper) I'm sorry.

Sakura: (sniffles) You better be...idiot.

How we got here, when me, Poney, and Green went ahead, Sakura and the others had run into an Akatsuki member, Tobi.

He was...eccentric from what Cornelia told me. Ibara described him as an idiot and too excited. Poney thought he would be a fun person to be around, which resulted her in getting a noogie from Tsukushi.

Mira thought he was a formidable opponent. He possessed a jutsu that allows attacks to phase through him. Sounds strong. It started to rain and so we proceeded to where Sasuke was to meet with Itachi. What we found...it was...

Y/N: Itachi...Uchiha...is dead.

Poney: So was this mission...all for nothing...?

Y/N: I'm...not sure.

Kiba: But what's the deal here? What kind of battle would cause this much of a mess?

Y/N: (thoughts) Was this the magnitude of a battle between two Sharingan users? What destruction...

Naruto: Where's Sasuke!?

Hinata: The only chakra I can sense now is ours.

Kiba: I can still pick up traces of their scents, but...

Kakashi: We were too late.

Naruto grits his teeth in anger. I walk up to him and put a hand on his shoulder.

Y/N: Hey, we may have not gotten him this time, but there is always next time. Let's not give up on him.

Naruto: ...Why? Why is it that I can never reach Sasuke? 

Y/N: I don't know...come on. Let's head back everyone.

Yamato: Kakashi-senpai...

Kakashi: Before we go back, if there's even the smallest trace of Sasuke's scent left...

Y/N: It's quite the stretch though.

Cornelia: Even with our heightened senses, I don't think we'd be able to find him.

Y/N: It's fine. At least you all tried...that's all that matters. But still...

Naruto: Yeah...exactly. There's no way that we can give up after we've come this far!

Kakashi: We'll see this through to the end...at least until we lose Sasuke's scent completely.

We all split up and continue to look. Even with their heightened senses and my own, we're following only faint traces.

We continued to look for a few more hours until the scent disappeared. Dammit. We reconvened back at the Uchiha ruins at nightfall.

Kakashi: ...We've done everything we can.
