BONNIE ASKED LILY what to wear to a dinner party, and she said dressy-casual. Blanching at that statement, she grabbed a pretty knee-length skirt and an appropriate shirt to match. Nude heels were all she could find to balance the outfit, so she turned to Lily with her arms outstretched. Lily grinned and nodded, also wearing something similar. The pair locked arms as they walked down the stairs, not wanting to be late.
James looked up from the map when he heard Lily's laughter. He smiled when he saw that she was dressed up for the Slug Club dinner party that Slughorn refused to allow him to join. Sirius and James would always pester Slughorn, but he continued to say no. This didn't bother the pair because they knew they would never get in, and now it just annoyed him when they constantly asked. They enjoyed annoying their Potion's professor.
Peter's eyes lingered on Bonnie, who was also dressed up as she left the common room with Lily. He was worried about her with Remus's secret. He had yet to tell his brothers of his suspicion from the morning, but he didn't know if he should. Maybe he should ask her first, he thought. Peter bit his lip and went back to his starchart. He hated confrontations.
James nudged Sirius. "Since when is Bonnie in the Slug Club?"
Sirius looked up from the map as well when Bonnie's name was mentioned. His eyes trailed down her body as a smirk lit upon his face. Bonnie just kept popping up in all the right ways. He wondered what she would have done to be allowed into the Slug Club so late in the year. "No idea. Johnny boy? Has she mentioned it to you since you both are so close?" Sirius enjoyed teasing Remus of their little cuddle session in the hallway, even if Remus would implore he was just calming her down. It was too easy to rile up the werewolf.
Remus gave Sirius a look from his spot on the couch that told the boy to back off. He was still in his midst of self-loathing from the Herbology lesson, and he really had no desire to worry over the plans the Marauders would do that night. Even though he noticed Peter acting strangely, he decided to wait until tomorrow to interrogate him. Remus thought about the lesson from earlier and the moment the class ended. Jules Abbott had begun talking about werewolves, how one had killed her cousin. She spoke so terribly about them to the other Hufflepuffs that would listen. He almost wanted to yell out that she's been in the same school as one for five years, but he didn't.
Sirius sighed, watching Lily and Bonnie's names on the map going toward the dungeons where the party would be held. "Well, I guess not, then. She's all right at Potions, but that can't be the reason she's in it. Maybe we should go investigate, eh James? Peter? Remmy boy?"
Remus gave Sirius the middle finger that clearly meant 'not now,' so Sirius looked at James and Peter. Both nodded and grinned at the idea because they truly enjoyed getting in other people's business, especially if this particular girl was as mysterious as they came. Now, all the Marauders could agree there was something odd about Bonnie Miller. Sirius saw her face this morning when she received a letter, the disappointed and guilty look he knew so well. Something kept drawing him to her, and he wanted to know everything.
James quickly ran to get his cloak while Sirius followed to find his wand. Peter stayed down, glancing wearily at Remus every so often. Remus noticed this and was about to just tell him to spit it out when James and Sirius reappeared calling Peter away. Peter smiled hesitantly at Remus before leaving with the pair.
Bonnie smiled politely at Professor Slughorn when he immediately began to gush on Lily's perfect Potion abilities. Everyone there seemed to have a reason for it, but Bonnie? Bonnie felt out of place. Jules Abbott's mother was a high in the ranks of Ministry, and she formed one of the major wizarding laws. Garrett McLaggen's father was a famous Quidditch player, and Garrett was pretty good as well. Lucius Malfoy was a Malfoy; there was no other reason needed. Every person there had a reason to be, and Bonnie frowned inwardly when Lucius had made a comment to his friend Atonin Dolohov about her. They knew of her, no doubt because of her pureblood status.
